HTC Touch Diamond

Blew in Dutty's latest 2.8 RTM-level ROM last night. It's clean and stable, with lots of bugs fixed. The keyboards now work properly. Lots of subtle new features and functions exposed in TF3D ... one I like is the enlarge/reduce text controls in message window -- at last I can enlarge the SMS text to read it without lenses.
Also installed Garmin Mobile XT 5.0.20. Works great. Left the GPS on all night and now the GPS gets a fix in seconds in GMXT, Google Maps and HandyMap.

Still waiting for Leaf to release 1.97 ROM.

I loaded it this morning but the light pack. only thing that i miss is the wm task manager in the top corner. otherwise it seems stable en fast.

Android

I see that the developers from xda are trying to crack Android for the Htc Diamond. I cant wait.....

...Android for the Htc Diamond.
Yes, saw that. Also watching closely. With WM7 out in 6-8 months 2009/2010 should be a good time for PDAs, and a bad time for personal budgets.

BTW, Dutty's Diamond ROM cooks are probably coming to an end. Last week his Diamond took the main hit in a bad fall, so XDA-Dev'ers and others have clubbed together to buy him a Touch HD, all in the hope that his attention turns to Our Next Device. Can't wait for an HD, but R10.5K from PP for a grey one is >tad pricey.

Arthur,

Why did leaving the GPS on all night have the effect of increasing the speed at which a fix is made?

Did you install Garmin Mobile XT by following the links on here?

Nope just another Diamond (GBP 375)

Point 3
Yeah, that's what I thought, until I read this quote in wmpoweruser.com:
Rallying some community spirit, XDA-Developer Moderator tnyynt has started up a fund open to donations to get Dutty up and running again. The target is 485 EU/375 UK, which Dutty wants to use towards HTC’s latest high-water mark, a HTC Touch HD. I am sure any prospective owners of the device will benefit greatly from any development he does on this new device.

hschutte: on re-read i can see that my comment is ambiguous ... i just got tired of waiting for the gps to get a fix after the new flash, so left it on all night. I haven't checked what radio Dutty's latest has (20 I think), but it seems to latch on faster than the standard 1.93 or Dutty's 2.5.

No, bought GMXT from the Leaf shop. But this is the first time I used v5 of the WM app, and it's a real improvement on the v4.x that ships in the Leaf 'package' (microSD card in a plastic bag with cardboard stiffener).

I want to use my Diamond to watch tv programs and movies that I want to pre-load onto the phone. What formats can I play and what apps should I use?
I tried searching the thread but couldn't find any discussions on this.

So far I've converted mpg's and avi's to 3gp using Pazera. Details here
Then I watch them with Windows Media Player.

AZTORV7-WWE

I flashed my Diamond yesterday with AZTORV7-WWE. at first it looks nice... but for some reason i find it very sluggish. i did a hard reset as they requested but the rom is just not fast enough. so I went back to SwiftBL-WWE-Diamond-v7-5-Lite-12MbPP. it is fast and smooth and i havnt had one problem so far. My opinion this is the best rom (dutty v2.8 is out.. but i dont like the task manager. I prefer the HTC task manager that closes apps when you click on the X button)

So what roms are you guys using? and what are your opinions on those roms?

I tried Dutty's as well, but the scroll bar in the sms tab didn't line up with contacts - I'd scroll down to "L" and the phone would interpret it as "F". Thought I could live with it for a while but then it just irritated me so I flashed back to Diamond Project and really like the clean look of the graphics. Haven't tried AztorV7 or the SwiftBL. Neither of them grabbed me much from what I saw on XDA but I guess I won't know until I try.

Haven't had any complaints with the Diamond Project - it's faster than the stock ROM, seems to conserve the battery better and there have been no conflicts with any of the apps I've loaded, unlike the shipped ROM.

diamond project is going to be my next rom that i'm going to try. ive become somewhat of a flash addict the last week or so.

Been running WildBerry V1.0 for some time now, generally it works well. However one (both ?) of the chefs are leaving xda (to a new site) so hopefully they continue development.

I prefer roms where a new version isn't released each week

Let me know what you think of it and how it compares with Aztor. I don't have the cap to download all the ROMs I'd like to try unfortunately.
