HTC Touch Pro 2 (Fortress)

How long does yours take to load past the "KlinuX, htc" screen? Mine seems to get stuck there...

Mine took a few minutes on the first boot. Goes a bit quicker on the 2nd/3rd/4th boot but still pretty slow.
Shouldn't take more than about 5 minutes I think

I played with my Android TP2 last night and although I'm new to Android and it is not fully working, all I can say is that I can not wait to dump WinMo for Android! Bring it on!

Haha definitely! I noticed that it even makes my display look a lot more clear & crisp than WM does.
Really loving it - can't wait for a fully functional port

How do one switch to an old type key layout on-screen when typing a message in portrait? The layout where you press one button a few times and it cycles through the letter. I did it now once by accident, but have no idea how it happened...

So as you all know, us TP2 users are going grey waiting for the 2.07 ROM update from HTC or Leaf...
This ROM was released internationally many many months ago but us poor South Africans have been forced to wait.

After browsing around XDA, I finally found the official 2.07 ROM Update for South Africa: http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Rho...21.1_Radio_Rhodium_4.49.25.91_Signed_Ship.exe

I have installed it myself and it is working. So in future, bookmark this URL for ROM Updates seeing as how Leaf & HTC are sleeping!!

Just some initial feedback on the ROM:
I've only just just installed it and am restoring my messages & contacts etc.
But the ROM has Sense 2.5 which is much nicer, in my opinion, to Sense 2.1.

So far it's pretty quick and responsive

Ok so here's the initial feedback for this ROM... I wouldn't suggest that you update unless you're willing to do some tweaking.
The ROM runs great when first installed but the second you restore your data, the problems begin...

Messaging
HTC has created a completely new messaging application which looks really nice and they had the right idea, but it's horribly slow. After restoring my data (roughly 5000 sms's), the messaging app has a complete meltdown - taking up to 3 minutes to be able to access a received sms.
Apparently this is a common issue with Sense 2.5 and I'm investigating ways of making this quicker.

Task Manager
HTC was also nice enough to leave out the handy task manager on the top-right corner. Install Dutty's Task Manager for Leo to fix this (may require soft reset after install)

GRRRRR I've had enough of this crappy ROM... Most disappointed in HTC... One would expect such a huge amount of problems with a cooked ROM but not an official one.

I will be reverting back to my old ROM :-/

Thank you for the feedback, I'll wait some more for Android then.

Have you seen they last week added a Touch Pro 2 Froyo beta port on XDA?

The 2.07 Rom is slower than the previous one I had, but I've gotten to the point where I don't care anymore. My phone works, GPS works, and the few essential apps I need work well. I'm eyeing getting one of the Windows 7 Phones when they come out, but I want one with a slide out keyboard like the TP2. Good grief, typing messages is so much faster than using a number pad, to the point now where I can't go back. Other than that, the ability to use the phone as a Zune will be awesome, as the Zune software rocks for managing music and podcasts.

My TP2 became completely unusable once I had restored my data.
Messaging took up to 4 minutes to open... Contacts were extremely slow... Even data transfer btwn my phone and PC was going at around 100bps, thats right, bits per second.

Roughly how many messages to do you keep on your phone? And contacts?
Just trying to understand why mine was so completely buggered and, albeit slow, you're actually managing to make use of your phone

I think it is time for a new ROM, I'm getting seriously fed up with mine now, I just wish I could run a full Android already...I'm thinking of going with Energy ROM...

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=562773

I'll just remove what I do not want. Any one here tried it?

What ROM are you using? I tried 2.07 several times. Even though the Messaging fix improved things, it was still terrible so I've stuck with 1.87.
Some tweaks that have helped me run 1.87 faster is turning off threaded sms with Tom Text Messaging
I also use SPB Mobile Shell instead of TF3D... It's very much like Android, very customisable and much faster than TF3D.

WRT to Energy ROMS, these are always excellent ROMS. They look good and are very stable.
I haven't run any custom roms on my TP2 yet as I haven't felt the need to.
Problem with custom roms though is these are usually developed by people who want specific things in their roms so you end up with whatever they wanted and without whatever they chose to remove.

But yeah, Energy roms in particular are generally good.

Thanks, I'm running 1.87, but lately my phone had been particularly slow, resetting when I slide it open, have difficulty connecting, etc...usually when my PCs get to this point, I just format them ans re-install Windows, so it seems the logical think to do with a WM phone?

Maybe I should just stick to 1.87, but reload it with the tweaks you mentioned...

Yeah I always do a hard reset every couple of months on my phone. I find my performance is usually hampered by some stupid software I decided to install but it's never a bad thing to do a hard reset once in a while.
Be sure to back up tho :)

I was amazed at the how much better my performance was without threaded SMS and TF3D. SPB Mobile Shell is a paid for app but even if you choose to just use Titanium, which comes with Windows 6.5, you'll notice an improvement. Plus there's a whole lot of add-ons and tweaks for Titanium as well, just to add some functionality to make things easier
