HTC TyTN / Imate JasJam

Okay,

Here's the reply from MTN's side - The TYTN has not yet been approved due to the sms notification problem, we've sorted out the USIM problem, the guy who get's our phones in has advised why don't you guys go for the JASJAM he reckon's it's a lot better

Anyhow that's the 2 cents worth of info I could get......

Hi MTNDD

Your advisor has just lost me. As far as I am aware, HTC makes all the phones and the only difference between the HTC TyTn and the i-mate Jasjam is the branding and the rom or software that is loaded on it?

Am I missing something?

Confused...

It is one and the same device ... the guys supplying the networks with the HTC device is the same guys that have supplied the networks with i-Mate branded devices ... HTC has severed ties with i-Mate ... as far as i know the Jasjam will not be here ....
The only difference would be the ROM on the device ... each carrier has what i reffer to as the base line version of the operating system ... the carriers then add aditional apps and the protocol version and radio stack ( device comunications ) is also customised to their spec ...

Will this device not have to under go network testing ?? it will have the same hardware yes, but the the radio stack and protocol version will differ ...Voice mail SMS notification does work with the JasJam telstra wwe 1.31 ( Australian ) ROM but network connectivity leaves a sour taste in your mouth compared to the HTC rom which in my opinion works much better .... expect to get knocked down to GPRS where the HTC will have HSDPA ..
my 2 cents for what it is worth ..

In principal yes, however the form factor, button ergonomics etc are different as well as the fact that there are some fundamental s/w differences including the radio stack, hence the timing differences in resolving issues.

If there are specific customer requirements we will get back to back orders in place.

Currently the corporate channel has a requirement for Jasjams hence the orders and availability of this.

 GPRS vs HSDPA :D - doesn't seem to be too much of an argument there...

From what I can gather, battery life and weight of the actual phone seem to differ a little. http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone2=1589&idPhone1=1659

New i-mate distributor appointed

New i-mate distributor appointed
Johannesburg, 9 November 2006

Insync Mobile has replaced Leaf Wireless as the local distributor of i-mate devices, according to Insync director Bruce Cockburn.

Leaf says it was no longer interested in the distributorship rights, since the Taiwanese-based manufacturer, High Tech Computer (HTC), is no longer manufacturing i-mate products.

“Leaf originally took on [the distribution of] i-mate products because HTC manufactured them – now that has changed,” explains Quinton Leigh, MD of Leaf Wireless.

I-mate is now using three other manufacturers, and Leigh says his company regards these manufacturers as “substandard”.

Bruce Cockburn, director of Insync Mobile, says his company is “proud to have been awarded the distributorship of this global brand, which has more than 500 000 members in its user community”.

“Leaf terminated their agreement with i-mate, and I was approached by i-mate to distribute the products,” he explains.

I-mate has been available locally since 2003, and Cockburn attributes its loyal brand following to the Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system, which provides connectivity between customers` mobile devices and PCs.

Dawn Robson, COO of i-mate, says in a statement: “We are very pleased to be working with Insync Mobile in what is a very successful market for i-mate – we look forward to continuing our commitment to our South African customer base.”

Insync Mobile will continue to trade with all mobile networks and selected service providers who retail i-mate products, and will match all previous service agreements and warranties, assures Cockburn.

Through this new distributorship, i-mate will continue to offer the i-mate K-JAM in SA, and will introduce the i-mate JASJAM and i-mate SPJAS – the first 3G/HSDPA devices – before Christmas.

Both the TyTn and JasJam passed at the RFLAB. They did not note any RF performance differences between these 2 devices.
The JasJam has now been approved and we are still waiting for Leaf to give us the fix for the SMS notification on the TyTn

So where are the JasJam's coming from?

You got to love the politics… Does anyone know this company Insync Mobile? Would be nice to have representation on this forum from them???

HTC TyTN, Imate JASJAM

Hi MTN Dude,

According to Leaf Wireless (HTC distributors) MTN are still busy testing the HTC TyTN.

Has the decision been made to definitely bring in the JASJAM only and not the TyTN?

Are they playing both sides now ???

The politics

Just reading the last few posts and interesting to see that MTN are going for JasJam instead of HTC. Where is the support to your own subsidiary?

Did you guys know that Leaf is a member of the MTN group???

Why would leaf not do everything to get their phone compliant and MTN do everything to push them????

Funny world
