HTC TyTN / Imate JasJam

Just reading the last few posts and interesting to see that MTN are going for JasJam instead of HTC. Where is the support to your own subsidiary?

Did you guys know that Leaf is a member of the MTN group???

Why would leaf not do everything to get their phone compliant and MTN do everything to push them????

Funny world

I didnt want to bring that up ... but seeing as you have ... For quite some time now .. Remeber the days of MTN loaded or when it first started ??? Leaf did it for them

 GPRS vs HSDPA :D - doesn't seem to be too much of an argument there...

From what I can gather, battery life and weight of the actual phone seem to differ a little. http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone2=1589&idPhone1=1659

Won't but to much faith into that site. They report that the JASJAM is only 3G and not HSDPA compatible although battery life might be caused by the different firmware/software loaded onto the devices.

Will the JASJAM be more affordable than the TYTN?

jasjam and the TyTn should price the same! Its the same phone, just different firmware! right, The Guy?

Bruce Cockburn is the director ... If memory serves me correctly he is or was a director of Leaf ...
Are they playing both sides now ???

It would not surprise me at all… Like I said its all politics and nothing to do with the product.

Just did a search and looks like he was the Sales and Marketing Director at Leaf and also previously worked at MTN back in 2001. The plot thickens!!!!

Who cares who brings what in and who puts what badge on it just give us the thing already!!!

Yes I heard this too… Would not surprise me if the relationship has gone sour between MTN & Leaf

i-Mate branded devices are normally a bit more expensive than the other devices
apparently because of things like club i-Mate for support etc ...
But seeing as this is their last HTC device i think they might sell it at a get rid of it price .. we will just have to wait and see
ps ..
I cant find anyone selling i-Mate branded devices ...

TyTn and wifi

Hi all,

I have a problem. My wifi ADSL modem is currently setup in bridge mode so that I can either connect to the internet or my corporate network.

I want to set up the same on the TyTn via wifi. I could not get this to work. I resorted to re-configuration with PPPOE which allows me to connect to the internet without entering credentials. I can now surf the internet via my TyTn.

But I don't want to re-configure each time I need to connect to my corporate network.

Two questions: -

1. How do I configure the TyTn to connect via wifi to the internet with the modem in Bridge mode?
2. It seems that the TyTn only supports WEP encryption? How safe is this?

thanx

1 your would need dialer for your device, similar to the utility you use on your PC which has your user name and password .... I haven't seen anything like this for PDA, so your would have to configure you Router like you have done ..
have to run now get back a little later

Good day,

Have you managed to get this sorted?

Is there a definitive answer as to who will be stocking the TyTN by when and for how much? I'm considering just dumping the idea of the TyTN and going for the P990. Anybody? Pretty please :)

WPA? That is great to know. I thought it only supported WEP.

Windows guys would be shooting themselves in the foot if their Mobile version only had a tiny fraction of compatibility with existing infrastructure ..

you will be delightfully surprised to see just how powerful the devices running Windows mobile are .. i dig it with a shovel

And now I wait on MTN SP to get their upgrades going.

Come on MTN SP - surprise me for a change... :D

I take it that you have the HTC TyTn? If there is a big price difference between the two which would you go for and why?

MTN SP does not have either the HTC TyTn or the i-mate Jasjam on their price lists yet.

Yip i have a TyTN .. a qtek 9000 ( more commonly known as the Jasjar ) and another couple of devices ...

Anyway the hardware is the same .. these devices all come from HTC ... there shouldnt be a price difference .. or a notable one at least ..
the only difference is the ROM versions .. i-Mate has been known to throw in additional applications which can be useful or annoying it depends on the end user .. i normally unlock the extended ROM and dump all the apps i dont use .. this free's up more system resources ...
I mod everything i own ... My weed eater is next :D :D :D
