HTC TyTN / Imate JasJam

Why you guys raving about i-mate? I have one and it is a piece of sh%t Other phones can't do what a win-mobile phone can but then again the other is more reliable and alternative solutions are cheaper in any case. In the beginning I used email the browser and just about everything except the camera but I suppose I got bored with the toy. Don't think MTN is going to fix problem where it just switches it self off 14 Months in my contract. The sales person kept telling me I have to wait 3-months if I wanted to downgrade my package when I actually wanted to upgrade to similar package as talk-100 could not remember the name thou @ mtn calls it Pro 100 (This happened three times until I mentioned the magic word pro100)

Cellucity in waterfront and canalwalk is the only shops that have stock of the TYTN. Getting myne from canalwalk cellucity TODAY!!! YEAY! :D Mmnn MTN, dono about MTN.

Have you picked it up yet?

Got mine yesterday and started to ease into it. First windows mobile phone I have had. Previously had Symbian OS. Win Mobile is quite intuitive to use if you are used to Win XP. Will set up the WiFi this evening. BT sycs perfectly with my BT headset and BT in the car. Best phone I have ever had :)

Hi,

Is it possible to add a list of recipients to a SMS without adding one at a time and then going back to the contacts for the next recipient? (A list like the Nokia's?)

Sending out the obligatory Merry Christmas sms? :D

Hope you guys are NOT buying your TyTN's from the selling price inflated cellular dealers. Get them straight from the agents. Vodacom quoted me R8900 for mine. I got mine from Leaf Wireless in Cape Town. Price was R7672 and it was hand delivered to me (at no cost) at my workplace by the sales rep.
I know they have a branch in Jhb too.
PM if you want their details.

WALLACE - it is very easy to add multiple recipients (with the TyTN anyway):
Just type the names in the TO: field. As the phone scans the contacts db it will offer you choices. Select the name you want. Phone will automatically add a semi-colon (like MS Outlook does) and then you can start typing the next name.
I don't use the contacts list to select a name at all (takes too long).

Hi dux,

That is way to painful compared with the 6680. Seems like the TyTN is missing some of the everyday basics. You could send SMS's via Nokia PC suite on your PC. I have not yet found a similar app for the TyTN. The phone also does not (cant?) disconnect automatically after sending and receiving email.

The 2M pixel photos are all in the region of 100K and are **** quality. There is very little camera functionality. The display is ultra crap in the sun (as is you can see NOTHING) and I have even had to reset it as it has hung while trying to answer calls. The nice small text with the full screen for email simply does not compensate for all the other crap.

I need a real phone and not a flimsy "Wanna be" phone. I am considering going back to my 6680 till the N95 lands.

a. I have a laptop.
b. I already have the TyTN and it's crap.

Anyone know how to remove the battery cover?

I bought the TyTn for a few reasons:
1) Windows Mobile - the device syncs perfectly to my office desktop+laptop+home pc's MS Office Suite. Not my nokia's or SE's could do that as well with either original software or 3rd party.
2) Mobile email via the office or home WAP's or 3G
3) 3G
4) It has Terminal Services - this allows me to connect to my servers at work from anywhere
5) wanted a mobile device that I can use a garmin gps 10 with, without any issues.

I will admit the camera is not perfect, but then the purpose of a pocket pc's cam is not to try and outdo Lord Litchfield. I do however suggest you check your settings - I took a photo now in 2m pixel mode and the size came to 400K+. Also in jpg compression if there are a lot of solid colour areas in the photo the compression ratio is more therefore a photo of a white piece of paper could quite easily be less 100kb even at 8m pixel res. A lot depends on the subject matter photographed.

I assume you mean by disconnecting automatically that you are using 3G/GPRS to collect your email? If that is the case I have noticed that too, it didn't bother me.

Everybody expects different things from their phones. I wanted a business tool with specific features (eg. TS) that could make my life easier - having to drag a laptop around all the time gets irritating. Maybe the TyTN is not for you.

oh and the battery cover clip is the little "slider" on the bottom of the unit to the left of the usb/charger port.

I've been doing some reading and it seems microsoft is promising a "better phone experience" with next years version of Windows mobile.

It seems like many of the people making posts about how great the phone is have not even had their hands on one yet - let alone used if for a few weeks.

sky.akash - one of the guys at the office has already asked. I'll be using it for a few more days and then going back to my 6680 until the N95 arrives :)
