HTC Wildfire - Some Questions

Have to say after 1 day off using the wildfire it realy is an awesome little "BUDGET" phone.
Works great for what it's worth.

Exactly. People compare this phone to the Desire, but if you look at the price difference you'll realize that it isn't a fair comparison at all... I think the fact that people do say it "sucks" because of the low-res screen or the slower processor don't realize that the fact that they're even making those comparisons in the first place means it's an AWESOME phone for it's price :)

I upgraded my wildfire to froyo a while back. unhappy I did that. All I want to do is just load a pure android platform on so that the HTC sence is not on or running in the back any more.

If any one can help me with the root or direct me to a forum were you have read something please post.

Thanks

Wildfire Battery

Seeing as this is the closest thing to an official thread for the Wildfire, i thought i might get some answers here.

Hows the battery? I have the HTC Desire its great - but TERRIBLE battery. I want to get my wife the wildfire - R99 on MTN and Vodacom, just concerned about the battery life. Haven't heard many complaints.

I got the Hero and I got the same alarm issue.
Sometime it just does not go off. Very annoying!!
I reboot my phone every night, it fixes the problem.
Google android alarm issues, you will find many unhappy people.

Got the SO a wildfire, she hasn't complained about bat life, but it all depends on how she is going to use it. As far as I know she really likes the phone.

Depending on usage, I get between 12 and 40 hours from the battery. Wanna chew the battery? I have found:
* GPS functions
* Bluetooth always on
* Sync everything always

chews the battery down to that 12 hours. So, GPS and BT I only activate when needed. I also only sync my weather and Gmail stuff, since social networking (facebook, twitter) holds no interest for me. I do not know how much these chew battery.

I also just got a Wildfire. The battery life so far is decent. With "normal" use I comfortably get 2 days. Using GPS and wifi stills gives me a full day. Only bummer is that there's no Froyo (2.2) update in sight for us at the moment. This is the reply I got when I queried it on the website:

Thank you for contacting HTC.

Yo, can you provide any details on this, I looked on the HTC site, but couldn't find a way to update.

On another note, has anyone been able to get the Wildfire and the Sync program to talk to each other. I tried on XP and Vista, but couldn't get it working.

looks like they took the firmware download down :confused:

to use sync you must enable USB debugging on the phone

So what do you guys suggest. Rooting or Firmware update? ;)

well firmware update will stop rooting entirely,
I rooted mine with cyangenmod 7 can't say I'm all that impressed, miss alot of the old roms stuff, but I have got used to it, maybe WildPuzzle is better

Root, you can always apply the fixed firmware update from XDA

The moment you do the OTA update you lose the ability to change your mind. Trust me I kick myself every day now for over 6 months.
