Huawei Ascend P7

Having used it now for just under 2 weeks, I'm extremely impressed!

The battery lasts me 2 days if I use it moderately (about the same as the Note 3 I used to have).

Software is nice and easy to use. As soon as it is customized to the way I want it to be, it becomes a totally different phone and is a lot more user-friendly (though that applies to all phones).

Build quality is excellent. There are no weird creaks and bad spacing. The phone definitely feels more solid in hand than the S4 and I'd say it's on par with the Note 3 at the very least.

Screen quality is really nice. Brightness is what you'd come to expect from a phone these days and the picture quality is excellent.

The camera is very impressive. It's definitely a massive improvement over the P6 and is on par with the S4 or Note 3.

I recently started playing Death Rally again, my P6 does slow down quite badly when there is lots of details in the frame. Tried it on a friend's P7 and it is smooth as silk. The really improved the CPU and GPU a lot, quite tempted to get me one.

You sure about that ? The note 3 had a horrible 13 megapixel camera.

Could be you left yours on the default 9.6 megapixel setting, bumping it up to 13 resulted in poor quality

Strange, I also had a Note 3. Haven't missed it for one second.

Also very impressed still.

Battery life is very good.

Only thing that irritates me a tiny bit is when you swipe down for the notifications from the lock screen without unlocking the phone first it can be a bit laggy.

That really is the only gripe I have.

It's definitely not the fastest phone but it's much better than anything in it's price range... I'd say performance is better than the S4 I had but slower than the Note 3

Now you guys are thinking straight. Samsung produces the same level of quality as Huawei (also in China), copies rather than innovates but markets itself as "superior" and charges double the price. It's a brand for idiots.

I disagree. Samsung can charge a premium as they are an established brand. If you look at all the premium brands, they are all charging more or less the same for their phones...

The only thing I can fault Samsung with is their not so good build quality on the Note 2. The S2 and Note 3 were really good and the S4 and S4 Mini were less good but still not bad. Their software has come a long way but I can't recommend a Samsung without over 1GB of RAM - it's just too heavy on RAM

Edit: as far as I'm concerned, the Huawei is better built than any of the Samsungs I've owned so I'll agree on that point

The heavy and cumbersome TouchWiz UI is the biggest flaw in Samsung. If you compare it to stock android or even EmotionUI from Huawei it seems dated.

I agree, the P7 is beautifully made.

I had both my S3 and Note 3 for just over a year each and they both showed some wear.

I don't carry my phones in covers or pouches, but I look after them very well. I've never had a phone screen shatter, etc. My Note showed significant wear on the silver surround as well as on the faux leather on the back cover.

Don't really see anything that can show wear on the P7, as it's glass and aluminium.

I love TouchWiz.

Great with JellyBean on my S2, Note 2, and absolutely superb with KitKat on my S5.

Really cool with Lollipop as well, but Google left out Silent Mode and a few other things, so I'm sticking with Kitkat for the moment.

Stock Android does not cut it for me....close, but not there yet.

The first time I used a Nexus 4 I understood what "everything just works" really meant. So for me an unmolested UI is still best. The iOS copied Emotion UI from Huawei at first freaked me out because it had no app-drawer but now I am loving it.
