You're choosing your modem on looks and not technical features :eek::confused::eek:

I thought this forum was inhabited by nerds, but it looks like you lot shop more like women ..... "pretty modem, must haves it" :D

New USB Data Modem

I hear there are new USB modems coming out from Huawei. Can anyone tell us when the E270 will be out from Vodacom?

ANY PRICE AS WELL??
 
I would love to have one of these new sexy E272 babies.....and an external antennae outside my window. :)

But I still love the E220 V3G gave me...I'm sentimental, ok?
 
problems with E272 on Vodacom network

Hi,

I've got a E272 modem from Vodafone in the UK which works fine but now that I'm in SA I can't connect to the Vodacom network even though I'm supposed to have international data roaming. I've tried using a Vodacom sim card loaded with a data bundle but I keep getting the message that I'm not allowed to connect to the Vodacom network even though I've been assured by the agents at the Vodacom customer service centre at Menlyn and on the national call centre that my sim card is data enabled. Any suggestions on what I can try to fix this? I've already tried the latest versions of VMC 9.2.4 and VMC lite 3.2.1.156
Any help would be appreciated.

PS. the E272 does not have a connector for an external antenna, unless it's by inductive coupling as the modem is ringed by a red led, with a slot for the sim on one side and usb connector on the other.
 
Could the E272 be locked to Vodafone's UK network? If this is the case you would need to unlock it first to use it on one of the SA networks. Take a look at this link for more details about requesting the unlock code from Vodafone UK. http://www.3g.co.uk/3GForum/showthread.php?t=67901

If you don't have any luck with the above and the E272 needs to be unlocked (you need to confirm whether this is the case) it might be difficult to get it unlocked in SA as I think the DC Unlocker software only supports the E220 USB modem at the moment. It is possible that a software upgrade is already available though. You could make enquiries over here

It's on the under-side of the modem just above the label, covered by a white rubber cap.
