Huawei Mate 7

Hi there
Is it the Gold Mate 7 as only this version is dual sim in SA.

It's the only dual sim anywhere.

As an aside, I blogged about battery life, and how to improve on it with the Mate 7 on Lollipop. I'm having a few issues, still not achieving deep sleep. Gonna reset this weekend.

Is anyone using the P8 lite? I'm considering getting it as my upgrade this month. Any serious issues to look out for. Reviews say that it is ok, but not great. I don't need the fanciest phone, I'm quite happy with my s3 mini at the moment.

Got a dual sim that seems to be sold :) Had it for a month... my sister in law liked it enough to ditch Samsung :)

Excellent phone with brilliant value for money. Was actually so nice that I'm now waiting for my full-sized P8 to arrive early this week!

Will be a massive upgrade over the S3 Mini :)

My wife is using the dual sim P8 Lite , it's actually great value especially if you can get the dual sim version . She had a Samsung previously and made the change after messing around with my Mate 7 . She wanted something smaller and something dual sim and hence the P8 lite . It's way better than the S3 Mini and will be a nice upgrade over it . The down side is that currently they seem difficult to find in certain areas , they seem rather popular in SA currently . A nice little phone overall .

Thanks guys, I'll check my local Telkom on Saturday. Hopefully they have stock.

Upgraded to the official B324 5.1.1 version of the firmware yesterday. So far so good.

Check out my blog for my experience with it. I did a reset, did wonders for my battery life ...

I am tempted to do the reset, I will just have to do a backup first. My phone isn't rooted (my banking app doesn't like rooted devices).

Hoping that the standard backup app on the phone will be good enough to restore everything.

You could root, backup, reset, restore, unroot... Otherwise look at Helium and the companion PC app. I'm told that does good things.

Thanks, will check out Helium. I'm afraid my rooting skills leaves much to be desired. :)

I use Super backup & restore for SMSs and contacts and calender events (just move the back up files off the device and then put them back on again). Unfortunately it needs root for app data so your only choice there is cloud services within the apps if they have them (like all my games were linked to Google Play/+ to preserve progress when I moved phones).

Thanks! I'll have a look at Super backup and restore.

You're welcome. What I don't like about the standard Android Google account sync is that it doesn't do SMSs and when it syncs contacts it fetches every single email address that google account has ever emailed as well. It's a phone, I don't want emails cluttering my contacts list. Certainly can't hurt to make backups with Super as well and then to just keep the files handy whilst pursuing other perhaps fancier methods of backing things up. Call it Plan C, although these days it's my Plan A.

Set your contacts to only show contacts with phone numbers? Works for me....

Yeah. One can do that. But it still annoys me that it fetches more than I synced up there from my phone in the first place. Even if I hide them they're still there.

The Huawei backup app restores most of your data again. You'll just need to log back into your apps like Facebook, Twitter, etc, that need account logins. I'm not sure if your banking app data will be restored though; mine doesn't. Just remember to copy your app folders (WhatsApp, pictures, etc) from your internal memory to your SD card (if applicable), or to a PC.

I've done this so many times, with my P6 and G7, and it's like using Titanium Backup, just without root.
