Price is out on Orange: R9 420 :crying:

Probably not bad value for money considering a S6 is like R12k

True, but I think the 6P just have too much issues right now. For that price, considering the limited support and warranties you will have for it here in SA, rather save the extra 3k and get a S6. In the long run, this will save you a lot of headaches. But, if you have 10k to burn and don't mind sending in devices by mail and waiting weeks or even months for it to return, then I'd say try the 6P.

Yeah but when they launch the Std was 12K and the Edge was 15K so compared to that the 6Ps launch prince isn't half bad.

I bought the S6 at R10k at launch.

The Nexus 6P is crazy expensive and overpriced by at least 45%, if not more. Looking at all the complaints, the device definitely has structural issues, and it could be something that will not last the average user more than 8-12 months. Besides, personally, I do not think the Huawei mobile phone brand is remotely close to the same realms of the Samsungs, iPhones, etc.

That being said, any person spending 10k on this phone, especially it being an import, is making a terrible investment.

Well I was talking about pricing from an article that myBB ran around launch for the S6 with local retail prices (I think that may have been at Incredible Connection though so I guess about 2K less was a bit closer to the actual).

I don't think the 6P is expensive though considering on paper it's as top tier as any other device that costs around that much. Yes it may have structural issues, but those don't suddenly mean a device should have been 50% cheaper, rather it should have cost 20% more and used better materials and more reinforcing.

Huawei isn't up to the level of the big boys yes, but it's not far off and will be there soon.

Overpriced compared to where?

A phones typical lifespan is what, maybe 2 years these days. Add in OS software changing almost annually and you'll always have this constant cycle of upgrading. Hell if you looked after your phone, it could go for 3/4 years...

Phones are designed to be consumed, they're not a lifetime product.

And i'll probably get a 6P :D

The 6P retails for around $499 in the US, but even there it is overpriced. The device, considering specs and make, should retail for around $350.

Considering reports as they come in as comsumers receive their devices, a fair price for the Nexus 6P should be around $199.

Then I am not mentioning the increase in price elsewhere in the world... which increase the entry level price to $700. Crazy!

No, the 6P is off-the-charts expensive! Despite its specs, had the structure had the same quality of build as top of the range devices, then I would have agreed.

Unfortunately it is not. This is cheap Chinese knock-offs.

As with the Nexus 6, Google will drop this price to reasonable levels too in coming months. I am sure about it.

Is it worth getting the 32GB version? How big is the OS footprint?

You're nuts. For all it's flaws it's still a flagship phablet level device and those are never cheap.
Usually the likes of Samsung, Sony and HTC are more expensive than the others but that's because the others are usually also a bit weaker and smaller which isn't the case here. You're absolutely crazy if you think the devices deserves a mid-range level or even below price when everything about it (other than apparently the construction) is high-end.

Hang on to your seats and see. The Nexus 6 phablet was a great indication as to what to expect - the American (the 200m + consumer market) where the pricing did not go down well, despite a great device! Same happening again. I will wait for 6 months and grab this device at half the price!

Well, let me tell you what happened to the 6P prices....

On eBay, 2 weeks ago the entry level device retailed at R15k on Pre-order.

The beginning of this month, prices for the entry level came down to R13k when the stock became available.

Since end of last week, prices dropped to R9.5k for the entry-level.

I see today, that there were a number of people selling the entry level device at R8.5k.

But, like I said, hang on until the end of November, when the device is officially released and more handsets have gone out. Then you will be able to pick up the entry level on eBay for about R7k-R7.5k, which will be more in line with the US prices.

In addition, in a few months, Google will also be dropping the price of the device, and I suspect that by then, you could get the 6P at a price of about R4k.

Can someone please confirm my understanding of the American version and the SA LTE compatibility.

Vodacom WILL work because it uses band 3 (1800)
Cell C will NOT work as it uses band 1 (2100)

Thanks.
