Huawei P30 Lite

Can strongly recommend that you get a back cover for the lite. I dropped my sample unit from about 10cm and the camera glass cracked (it's vulnerable, as it sticks out from the back - but it could have been an unlucky fluke).
I suggested to Huawei that they should start including a case, I don't know if they will.

But the overseas version comes with a soft gel back cover? Why don't we get it in SA?

No idea. I'd speculate that it's to bring the phone to a particular psychological price point...?

It's not a budget device. I can't help but feel taken advantage of when they do this type of thing on top of downgrading the RAM. Now I've heard that some customers already received their device last week already, which makes me even more peeved (this more at Telkom). I've waited years to upgrade, now the device I thought I wanted looks like it's being gutted to the point where I might was well spend my money on some tin cans & a ball of string...

I'm not so sure we're talking about the same thing. According to the Huawei SA website:

IN THE BOX
1) Handset x 1
2) Built-in battery x 1
3) Charger x 1
4) USB Cable x 1
5) TPU Protective case x 1
6) Quick Start Guide x 1
7) Eject Tool x 1
10) Headset x 1

Maybe I am just overreacting...

How can you be so sure?
Because I know the specs and I have been using it for the last 2 weeks. Performance is excellent. At no point do I feel there is RAM pressure (ok I don't do hectic multitasking - but if this is your game then the lite isn't for you). Battery life is great. Camera was awesome until I broke the glass. Screen is great. Tiny dewdrop notch is great.
Notification LED is a little bit inconspicuous, hard to see in the light - it's hidden in the speaker grill which is VERY thin.
I haven't changed my opinion, this is a lot of device for the money when you look at the pricing of the flagships and other mid to high range devices.

Interesting. The Huawei Store also lists a cover. Either they took my advice, or my sample unit wasn't fully specced. Either is possible...

I do hope it has a cover included, will be difficult to find a cover so soon after launch. Takealot only has one flip type cover.

A mate of mine has the P20 Pro. He just placed his phone on counter without cover and the camera glass broke.

Huawei's durability isnt the best..Only P series ,some Honor devices and Mate Series seem to get Gorilla Glass.

The only issue I have with Huawei is durability.

Ill get something like this..

My 2c...Never buy a "premium midrange" device from Huawei. It isnt worth it

They recycle the same thing in different devices e.g P smart 2019,P30 lite and Honor 8x are basically the same phone.Huawei is becoming too fragmented and I wonder if they push updates to all their devices.

I mostly blame Huawei SA for the kak pricing.Their phones are cheaper outside SA.

Like how the **** is it possible to buy an imported P Smart 2019 dual sim@R3500 on bidorbuy and the SA pricing is R4500(single sim) and R5000(dual sim).

That price difference is too large and not justifiable.

The P20 and P20 pro will drop in price by the end of the year and you will be able to pick it up on contract pretty cheap.

I tend to like the premium Huawei's

Huawei SA is doing a piss poor job on pricing.

Or maybe not lol

I saw that on their site. I don't think that spec sheet is exhaustive. There is, for example, no mention of the RAM amount on that list.

Ill get something like this..

What brand is that? I've had trouble with that type of cover before; the 'ahha' flip case I bought a few years back had the holes incorrectly spaced, meaning that I could only use either the power or volume rocker at a time.
