Huawei P6

Yip.

Sooner or later the way things are going gonna have to learn Mandarin anyway...might as well start with your music app lol
Hahaha! I already frequent the Chinese Huawei website, so I really should start learning Mandarin, because Google translate tends to butcher the translation

Well, I am happy to report that I do not seem to have this charging problem. Phone was on 10% when I plugged in the charger last night before climbing into bed. 10 minutes later I checked that it was indeed charging and it was sitting on mmm lets say 15% and this morning it was 100% charged. Hope the problem does not kreep up later though.

That's good to know! Nope, if you don't have the problem now, you should be all good! It could be that my battery is becoming old (it's a year and 4 months since I've had the device, so I'll be upgrading in a few months anyway. Hopefully to the P8

I just downloaded a battery health app. Said my battery had 4 bad cells and 40 good cells. It gave me the option to fix it. Propably just a gimmick hehe

Yeah, it most likely is. I tried using a battery app to check my battery usage, but it was pretty much a waste of my time.

I like the G7 too, but depending on the P8's price, or even the P8 mini, I want to wait before deciding on taking the G7. I'll see though.
I really like the G7

The G7's screen isn't as crisp as the P series. Rumours are the P8 Lite will replace the G7.

I haven't been able to compare it to my phone yet, but I really just want better battery life from my new device, and better support.

I'm quite disappointed that the P8 Mini/Lite wasn't announced today. Depending on how expensive the P8 will be here (as it most likely will be, for me), I'll still wait until the mini is announced, to compare it to the current Huawei devices.

Anyone here can recommend me a good custom ROM for the Ascend P1? I'm still rocking Android 4.0.

Go to xda, the list of options will be short, custom rom for Huawei are few and far between. You will be damn lucky to find anything marked as stable.

Have any of you had your battery replaced yet? Mine seems to be really bad, and I wanted to know an estimate of how long I'll possibly be without a phone for.

And also, do they do a replacement through my warranty, or will I have pay for the replacement?

I'm on Vodacom, and in Cape Town. I know they need to send the phone to Joburg for repairs, so I just don't want to be without a phone for too long.

You are looking at 2 - 3 weeks and the battery is your own baby, battery is only covered under warranty for 3 months.

Ugh, that's what I was afraid of. This is the only downside to a non-removable battery.

Thanks!

Ya, thats why you either buy one of the very few remaining ones with removable battery, or charge your phone properly. I am the 2nd of 3 owners of a P1, battery still gets me 1.5-2 days as I taught my friend (owner 1) how to charge phones properly, and then lastly my mother who was also taught. It was 13 months old when I got it, I had it for about 4-6 months and gave it to my mother in sept/oct of 2013.

I have not had battery issues since I owned and iPhone 3Gs or whatever it was

Then you may teach me too

I've read up about charging your battery properly, but there's too much conflicting information. Since you seem to have experience, please feel free to share.

I follow the common 20/80 rule, with a full charge cycle once or twice a month, but I also as much as possible charge off USB instead of mains and NEVER charge over night.

Now, I only have my own personal experience to back this up, but the science is sound. The probably benefit to USB over mains is the lower power output, obviously this also means a slower charge, but the benefit comes in with the battery never overheating on USB. As far as I know phones have not updated yet, but owing to the fact that generally speaking a PC outputs a max of 500mHa(250mHa if there is another device on the same channel), phones actually limit the draw to that value when charging via USB. Newer system however can output up to 1A, but I assume for some logic or safety reasons phones do not take advantage of this, there is an XPosed module to override the behaviour.

LI batteries have 2 main weaknesses, heat and overcharging, the later actually causes the former, but also damages the cells memory, apparently LI batteries have their best memory something or other between 50 and 80%, which is apparently why you should avoid plugging it in if its already over 80%, and then also avoid letting it charge to 100%. Frequent short charges are better than infrequent long charges. Personally I have found slow charging to work just as well, I work in an office at a desk so slow charging does not mean anything to me, if you like sales rep or something it may be a problem, but then just get a decent car charger.

That's the thing though, I never let my battery get lower than 20%, and let it trickle charge as well, whenever I could, until recently because my battery doesn't last long and I can't charge my phone all the time.

My problem is the overheating of the battery, even when I first got my device. With normal use (I don't play games on my phone), my phone would heat up so much that I had to put my phone down, in order for it to cool down first. Let's not even talk about how hot it got while it was charging. With certain firmware updates, I've noticed that a few would make my phone heat up much more than others, so when I see that my phone would heat up too much, I'd downgrade to a more heat-friendly firmware. One of them (B634, if I'm not mistaken) used to heat up so much, I'd get a popup to tell me that my phone was overheating, and my phone would shut down.

So that is the only thing I can think of that would mess with my battery.
I still have my 4 years old HTC Desire S with it's original battery, and that lasts longer than my P6.

You can try calibrating your battery. It's simple. Run the app from the play store or just let your phone die completely. Then keep pressing the off button until it no longer shows any notification to plug into charger. Leave your phone off while it's charging until it reaches 100%.

Other issues that cause battery drain is your network constantly swapping between HSDPA and EDGE.

My P1's battery is going strong after 2,5 years but it does need calibrating now and then.
