HUGE problem URGENT help!

Hi guys, ok today i got a 6600 quadcore, ram, box, hdd, i was under the impression that the mobo had built in graphics, i built the system myself, but when i start it, the screen light flashed *no input* and no boot beeps or any system sounds.......

The mobo is a S-Series Gigabyte Ga-G31mX-S2 board, Gamers Joice! sticker on the manual... any ideas? Oh god i hope i didnt fry the quad!
 
Ive tried testing for this problem by inserting the screen into another pc with a screencard's onboard vga, im guessing it doesnt have built in considering it gave the SAME response. Screen light flashing, no boot, just idling.... could this be the case?
 
Are you sure you have plugged in ALL of the necessary power cables from the power supply to the motherboard?
 
theres only 1 that i see that goes into the motherboard itself, a long flat one. ATX power thing. Cant see any others :( dude did i fry my cpu or something? im so scared...
 
theres only one small ATX_12v connector next to the cpu, no cables for it, is it for a GPU or something?
 
im capped int so i cant go see if this board doesnt have onboard graphics :(

You need to have the 20 or 24 pin Power Cable installed on the edge of the motherboard, AS WELL AS a 4 pin connector which is between the CPU Socket, and the Rear Ports. Without that 4-pin plug, you ain't gonna get nothing! You say you got a "box" which I can only guess is a new chassis? It should have a compatible power supply in - examine all the cables coming out of that PSU until you find the square 4-pin plug (normally yellow, and black cables)

dammit, i wonder what the heck the problem could be, do i need to connect that ATX_12v thing too?
 
ok im going to go look for that pin, its a Gigabyte psu, a 480watt one Jhb... :(
 
Ryder! i have one but it has 9 pins?! its black! little box shaped plug right?
 
should i buy like a 9 to 4 pin converter or something? Ryder that 4 pin plug ur talking about is called the ATX_12V plug on this board, between the cpu and the ports like u said, that the one? :0
 
I've just looked through the manual -- and it explains how to connect the power quite clearly...
 
Try and gimme a model no of that PSU so I can get a pic, but it sounds like it may be the slightly larger connector (It will fit, but only on one side - if that makes any sense?) You not capped locally I take it? I'll try find a pic as soon as you provide that model number!
 
No news is good news right? I am guessing you are halfway through your OS install already?

errrm you have the 20 pin thing and by the cpu should be a 4 pin connector without that your system wont boot
 
Sorry for also having to point out the obvious but if it didn't have graphics you wouldn't be able to plug the monitor in.

Don't panic. You can't have fried anything so easily. All the connectors only fit one way.

Take everything out except the cpu. Plug in the 24-pin connector and the 4-pin next to the cpu. If the speaker is connected you should get a beeping code telling you your cpu is working but the ram is not. Now put in the ram and the beeping should change or stop.

If you still don't get anything after plugging in the screen it's likely the graphics are not workign for some reason and we'll take it from there.
