Hugging: creepy or cool when men/dads etc do it?

So I wannabe in a hippy world, where people just get along and it's not an issue if 2 close male friends hug in public. Where it's actually encouraged to show affection to people you care about, rather than being frowned upon.

Besides, the discussion has moved from "men hugging" to "men kissing"...

I guess I just don't need to be that close to another man on a regular basis...I don't feel the need to.

If you wanna hug your bro's, go for it - Personally I find that rather weird.

where I come from we shake hands, no more. :cool:

If I need a hug, i'll hug my GF. :p

It's about the type of friendship, IMO. I have both male and female friends who enrich my life and I value this, so a hug is just demonstrating that. It doesn't mean we should insist on hugging every male we meet.

Is that weird?
 
I don't think its weird at all between close male friends & family regardless of age. Its a bit weird when its strangers, but it would depend on the situation. As a chick I don't mind hugging friends & family of any gender/age if we are close. But for instance I won't want to hug a distant male cousin or uncle.

The Europeans have a whole 'nother vibe going when it gets to this type of thing. I was hugged and kissed on the cheek by a French family I'd just met at a party once. It was the mom & dad in their 40s and their 12 year old girl. I was like...oh wait, what? All three of them kissed EVERYONE at the party like that. I couldn't believe it! The South African guys were not into that at all, haha, dodging every which way when the dad approached.:sick:

In Spain most girls would kiss my cheeks twice & some guys would kiss me on the cheek & lips. Freaky...except when it was hot guys.
The guys would hug each other as well when they met their friends at the pub or beach. It didn't strike me as homo at all. It was manly macho hugs, hahaha!
 
In my entire life, the amount of times I've hugged another man I can count on one hand. And then only really close friends or family. Things like funerals, going away for a while or coming back from a long trip etc. Never kissed another man... inconceivable, under any circumstances.

Hugging your female friends, regardless of the reason - totally OK.
 
There are different ways of hugging, and it also depends on who he is hugging.
 
I hug all my close friends, its a gesture of total respect, they know i care about them, its not gay so dont mock it.
 
I think guys who are afraid to show affection to another man in a non-sexual way is somewhat uncertain of their own "alignment" (similar to men afraid of holding their girl's handbag in public or wearing the colour pink anywhere) or cares way too much about the social stigma. Remember, it's the intention that counts and unless your intentions are queer, then hugging a guy shouldn't be an issue.

But, with today's metrosexual men and women, soon we'll be banging each other as a way of saying "hi".
 
I thought a bit about the whole sportsmen, hugging thing.

Say I were a football player and a teammate just scored the winning goal in the a major league match, meaning that the whole team would get a bonus of many thousands of euros ... I'd hug a man for giving me that bonus.

Dude men do not need to hug for random BS, a handshake normally works.

if your happy to hug every guy friend you have then good for you gay boy :p
