Have we all fallen off the wagon here?
I had to scroll back 8 pages to find what was once an active thread.
Yeh, I am restarting...was going along well until overseas trip put a spanner in the works:(

This thread has gone a tad quiet!

So who else is still doing this?

I have just completed my first 100 push ups - yeh ok, not all at once, but day 1 week 4 col 2 exactly 100.

Insane, and sore everywhere.

Had to have a quick power nap to recover.

Work and other stuff has been too hectic :crying: Hope to resume gym and this programme with a vengeance from early December onwards!

I thought I'd dig this thread up. How are you all doing with the the program? I cracked 100 in June last year and kept up the daily routine for about two weeks. Since then and have done about 50 pushups in total.

On Saturday I decided to start again. In my initial strength test I got to 26 pushups. When I did the test the first time back in 2011 I only did 14 so that's a big difference and seems to show strength has grown.

Based on the 26 the program started me at Week 3 Day 1, 72 pushups. Yesterday I did Wk3, Day 2, 80 pushups. I'm quite chuffed!

I posted this 0n 06-06-2011
I posted earlier in thread about lower back pain. I'm sure it was the flying (2 long haul flights in a week) that I did and not the push-ups.
Once again I have the back pain after starting with the program. Last time it went away after a few days. I've checked my form in mirror and my back is straight when I do the pushups.

Do you do normal pushups or do you you use the pushup bars you get from sportsmans and game etc.

I find normal pushups used to hurt my back and when I switched to using the pushups bars it went away but I also train my back as well so that could have helped.

I'd have to ask what is the point of being able to do 100 pushups, that's what it's about right? Why not rather do something that will actually make you strong such as for example deadlifting or russian kettle bells?

You could do 100 pushups, but can you do 20-50 decent pullups? dips? How about 1 arm pullups or squatting with just one leg etc etc...

I'm just curious, only reason why I'm asking.

:Edit
out of experience (when I did MA/MMA, years ago) we all did 100 pups in one go. That didn't mean we were strong, just that we could do that alongside 100 of everything else like situps, squat to standup position, etc etc. So far the only really challenging pushups was with either something like one hand or doing them at an angle.

:Edit
Furthermore I'd be really careful of doing a 100 or more of X, because a lot of repetition will injure some folks. I don't know, just so many other methods which seems better I know of to get yourself to a point of strength, endurance and fitness.

Being able to do 100 push ups is infinitely better than being able to do 0 push ups.

I am doing a similar program with an app on my phone, love them - (have the one for push ups and pull ups) -

Pushups - currently - 40 - Goal 125
Pullups currently - 10 - Goal 25

(I use my dumbells as handles instead of flat hand- allows me to go down further which seems to hit chest harder)

You should be able to handle body weight exercises before you can go up to larger weights in my opinion, granted push ups have their place and should mainly be used after compound exercises like the bench press etc to tear those extra muscle fibres.

I super set pushups with pec dec and have found it a vital bodyweight exercise to tear those extra few fibres.

I am about to start the test, lets see how many I can do once off. I did do a very light chest workout, the first in a while so am fairly stiff.

First mission 100 push ups
2nd mission: 100 Chin ups if its possible
3rd mission: Repeat mission 1 until success

Completed test with a moderate 30 push ups.

. . . snip

The 100 push-ups programme is part of a larger 6-weeks programme to build strength. The 6-weeks programme includes push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, tricep-dips, and squats; all body exercise that you can do with little or no equipment.

The idea is to be able to do all these in one workout session. You can go about the programme doing perfect-form exercises of only one routine, until you've mastered them all. Or you can have a go at the whole session to see how many of each you can churn out. You'll build strength either way.
