hundred pushups program

I used to include pushups in my home routine (4 sets of 25) but haven't done any of it in freakin' ages so thought this would be a good way to get back into it all again.

On my initial test I managed 33 but my arms were so sore 2 days later it's embarrassing! For that reason, I decided to take it a bit slower so have started week 2 middle column instead of week 3 3rd column. Day 1 I did day before yesterday but again I'm stiff as hell (always seems to be that second day that's the killer). I know that all passes as you get into it but sheesh...breaking in is the worst part. The day-after stiffness has been an enjoyable sort of reminder but the day after that it's worse than I ever remember. Anyway, I'll soldier on later today.

One thing - after week 2 I'm supposed to do an exhaustion test:
Don't forget, now you've completed Week 2, it's time to take an exhaustion test. Perform as many good-form push ups as you can manage before you physically can't do another one. Make a note of how many push ups you complete, and move on to Week 3.

The number of push ups you complete will determine which level of the program you'll start in Week 3. Perform this test within a couple of days of completing Week 2. Good luck!
When exactly do I take this test though if I plan to leave two days rest between week 2 and week 3 (or am I meant to have a few more days rest between days 2 and 3)?

I know, it doesn't quite make sense - I've always done my exhaustion tests on a saturday - which gives me sunday to rest and then I can start the following week on the monday -

Your other option is of course to do it on sunday - then you start the next week day 1 of the program on tuesday - then thursday then saturday....

Yeah I started my program on a Tuesday (so Tues, Thurs and Saturdays are my pushup days). Thanks - I think that's what I'll do, take the test on Sunday to see how I rank for week 3 and then I'll have the Monday to rest...if it's too taxing I suppose I always have the option of just repeating week 2 again or to just add an extra day (which would then shift my week days by one) between the weeks and exhaustion test.

Ouchie at week 5 including sets of 8!
 
Yeah - i've got week 5 day 3 colum 2 to do tonight. I'm scared - have to do 175 pushups tonight.

My arms are gonna hate me

Right, did my Week 1 Day 3 this morning.
All on track, looking good. Max I managed 23.

Was a bit of a rought week, moving house and everything, and I nearly forgot about it!

question re exhaustion test end week 2, when is it done? is it done right after the 5th session or do you complete day 3 and wait a day a day and then do it?

Wait a day to let your muscles recover.

I re-did my end-of-week-3 exhaustion test last night and managed 52. Well that's a slight improvement over the initial test of 48. Will try to actually get started on week 4 tomorrow.

Personally I will wait a day or two before going to the next week, but it makes sense for me based on the days I do this (Mon/Wed/Fri).
 
Ye fitting in the exhaustion test can mess up your schedule. You need to rest before doing it, and then ideally you want to rest afterwards too. I just did it earlier on Sunday (after finishing a week on Friday and starting again Monday) which was okay.

I also failed at day 3 week 3 in column 3, but I shouldn't really have been in it. Now column 2 will be a little too easy, I think I'll just add a few reps to column 2.. call it 2.5

The sets were 18, 18, 20, 20, 17, 17, 20, 45.

Felt like I was going to die on the last set :) - Now have to do an exhaustion test sometime this weekend to see where I start week 6 :)

To everyone doing this, keep it up - the results really start to show 10 weeks in :)

Nice going! Holy mother...45 pushups as the last set. So 175 pushups for the day! Day 3 of week 2 for me later today but the 15 I have to push to seems tiny in comparison to the 45.

Actually not so much - I can't say I feel any much worse off than I did completing previous weeks.

When will you do your exhaustion tests if you are doing day 3 on saturday?
 
Well my "day after the day after" stiffness is no longer happening so I'm ready to get stuck in properly now I think.

I'll do my exhaustion test on Sunday, with Monday to rest and then on to week 3 on the Tuesday...or at least that's the plan at the moment. I can always shift the days if I need to (make Wed Day 1, Fri Day 2 and Sun Day 3) but I'll see how it goes (or more like feel how it goes!).
 
finished day 3 of week 2, with 25 for last set (min was 15, doing col 2)

then waited 3 hours and did the exhaustion test - managed 49
felt it was too soon for 50...

so overall 119 push ups for the day - not too shabby considering I only did 8 two weeks ago on initial test!
