last week i decided to trade in my G6 GTI for a toyota fortuner. A Friend has 1 and thought it was a great buy. But after carefull thought i decided against it. I Mean jumping from a G6 GTI to a fortuner, hmmmm, i dont think so. I Love this little power rocket. So next step get my wifey little jazz changed. But problem is Fortuner to big for her to drive and she wont drive G6, so then i said enough is enough. This morning i got up and said to hell with it. I am going in this order: IX35, Sportage, Tiguan, Q5 then X3. Cheaper to more expensive. Prefer Value for money over brand.

Anycase 8.45am i call up the first hyundai dealer on the list and sales lady says sorry no auto for test drive. How can i buy a car for my wife that she cant test drive (She dont drive manual). Stock of the 2.0gls auto is like gold and very hard to come by. I cannot spend 300k on a vehicle that i cannot test drive. She then says hold on, she goes off for a few mins and comes back and asks if i am serious. COME ON now, i wouldnt call for nothing. Apparantly a customer cancelled his order last night which is a WHITE HYUNDAI IX35 2.0 GLS Auto. This is what i wanted. This what they have and gave me 1 hour to come by, test drive and well.....The wife loved it. We bought it. I must say its a Value for money vehicle. very comfortable and def better than the jazz. We not 4X4 people and may do the occ. Off road like lion park etc... but thats it. So for 300k for an SUV that has most bells and whistles i thought this wa a great buy for the wifey. Also save me from paying more for the q5 or x3 even the tiguan.

So i guess this was meant for us, as i know a good few people who are on a waiting list from last year. i guess they gonna be a bit upset, but hey life goes on. Anyway will take delivery next week after Nudge bar, side bar and towbar is installed. YAYYYYYY..........

Congrats! ix35 is a great vehicle.

Very good car. You'll both enjoy it. Nothing better for the price in terms of looks and kit. Congrats.

I prefer the looks of the Sportage myself but it's a great car which i'm sure you will both enjoy immensely. Congrats :)

I also prefer the looks of the Sportage to the IX35, but they basically have the same specs. Congrats and enjoy.

Very good car that, but I also prefer the look of the Sportage to the IX. But all in all it is a great car!! Congrats

Congrats. We are looking for a demo or low-km secondhand ix35 or Sportage but in Diesel. They are as scarce as as an honest government employee.

I couldn't get an auto Sportage without waiting, so I went for a manual. Sportage / iX35 are the same cars in every way except for some cosmetics and shell. IMO the iX35 is a ladies car, softer lines while the sportage is more angular and masculine. I also went for the 2.0l, but not the base model. The one with the folding side mirrors and few other extras. Both cars are definitely a good buy. Like the OP says, it has everything you need. Only forget the published fuel consumption figures. In town I average 12l - 12.8l / 100km. So not the lightest thing on consumption. And the electronic accelerator drives me nuts!

Good luck finding a car nowadays without one

lol.... yeah, i wish they had included a "sport" mode to give a more direct acceleration map, rather than the soft "ramp up" it currently has. There is a lull in the acceleration for a split second when changing 1st to 2nd in high revs while trying to pull away quickly. Very annoying.... I'll do some aftermarket research on remapping or piggy back chips....

I hear you, its the same on my Cerato and it makes it easy to stall. Not a deal breaker though you get used to it.

so i know this is a 4X2, which i will not change, however lets say for instance i wanna go to kruger on a trail or even the lion park self drive, Do u think this 4X2 will handle those places. Cos the other day we went down to PMB Lion Park and they turned me away cos of my GTI being to low profile. We def wont do off road stuff just basic dirt roads and game drives, so i hope i can get away with that at least.

I'm sure you'll be fine on most game drives. The Hyundai doesn't have the greatest ground clearance but it is much better than a 'platkar'. Just take it slow on dirt roads and stay clear of any Grade 2-4 off road tracks.

Have had the ix35 for over a year, 2.0l auto, and have found the best way to pull off quickly to join traffic for instance is to switch the gear box into manual mode,I am sure that there might be some electronic control of throttle between gears to make for a smoother change.

Car is an absolute pleasure and that torque from the diesel makes towing damn easy, often tow 3 bikes and hardly feel them on the open road.

Consumption is good, but as per normal it is foot related. If I use speed control on open road at 120 km get around 8.2l per 100 km, without control around 9.6. Wife somehow gets around 7 so yes it is also biased towards the feminine species. Town driving with stop starts kills the figures.
