I copy therefore I am

Max Headroom...

Now, I'm no librarian, in fact, I don't know what star sign I am. But, as a famous person once said, "You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time." And as I - another more famous person - once said, "If you don't teach them to read, you can fool them whenever you like."

The big corporates (aka the MAFIAA) want you to buy into their world view... where you are a good little consumer and you buy what they want you to buy, packaged the way they want. They want to control you. They want to set the terms. They want to live the easy life while you consume, consume, consume.... Funny thing though... they want to control the artists in the same way... except they just want them to produce, produce, produce...

They are the ultimate middle men... the worst form of protectionism in the world.

A few interesting responses from The Pirate Bay to legal threats: http://thepiratebay.org/legal.php

To Apple:

Apple

Apple is prepared to take further actions to stop the sites illegal activities, and Apple expressly reserves its rights. I am available to discuss this matter at any time. If you are represented by counsel in this matter, please provide me with the identity of that counsel.

The Pirate Bay

Instead of simply recommending that you sodomize yourself with a retractable baton, let me recommend a specific model - the ASP 21". The previous lawyers tried to use a cheaper brand, but it broke during the action.

According to Sunde The Pirate Pay – which is closing in on 100 000 tracker connections per second - accounts for around 65% of all BitTorrent traffic online.
I just LOVE this Freudian slip! Good on you RPM!!!!

I'm not sure about those stats, but if they are accurate then that's a chunkload of peering! :D

And if it is true, and lets say 50% of the files are copy write protected... eish thats a lot of money. Yet the music and movie industry still coins it. I think that in todays age it is absalutely mad to pay sports / movie / music stars the millions that they get while some countries starve to death with no decent way or means to live...

Boo Hoo to these corporates. Cry us a river why dont you. I commend these lads and what they do. Piracy aint theft period! I would not have the skills I have if it were not for sites like Pirate Bay! You are responsible for my livelyhood so thank you!

Its a free world. Survival of the fittest. The internet has changed the world and will continue to do so for years to come. My suggestions to the large corporates is to adapt or die. As long as people like Sunde are fighting the good fight, we'll always progress!!

Hopefully he can come to SA and make 10mMbs uncapped accounts a standard with GVT!! <--- (Very wishful thinking.... dont shoot me down for hoping :D )

:D suppose it came off that way ... ;)

Hey I'm all for having money, but holy moly, things are getting out of whack!

Personally I agree with you these people make far too much money. Hell I reckon half of these R&B "artists" should be burnt at the stake for the "music" they make, let alone paid huge flippin' wodges of cash.

Surely that Beyonce' woman qualifies as a witch? She must have bewitched the populous in order to sell that garbage.

Honestly I agree with this:

As a young computer enthusiast Sunde said copying was the only way he could learn as his pocket money of at 11 years old was hardly adequate to purchase the software needed to hone his computing skills.

These large corporations are sitting at their million dollar desks hosing themselves at us poor individuals counting our penny's for a piece of software we NEED in order to make some soft of living.

Just this last week I gave Microsoft the middle finger and moved to Ubuntu, haven't looked back.

IMHO, the answer to this economic crisis begins with Open Source Software, until that day comes, I WILL copy the software and tools I need.

I think the folks over at Canonical should be given awards for their work, they are even prepared to send me an Ubuntu CD for free. One day soon, linux people WILL RULE THE WORLD! :D
