I had forgotten why I hate non-apt distros

YaST is a POS.

Short story long: decided to upgrade to ubuntu 9.04 (from mint 6). But, halfway through the installation, it turns out the disc was damaged (got it from LXF magazine). So, now I don't have an OS on my hdd. No problem, I look for the next most recent OS I've got here, which is Suse 11.1.

So, I've installed Suse after a couple of years using ubuntu/mint:
1. I am not a KDE fan (I thought Suse used gnome, like all right thinking distros?)
2. I am most definitely not a YaST fan.

So, as soon as I can get a copy of ubuntu 9.04 or mint, I will be switching back to that.

My story's the exact opposite. I was using OpenSuse, switched to Ubuntu 8.1 then upgraded to Ubuntu 9.04 for a couple of months before settling once again on OpenSuse. Apt-get install is very nice, but zypper works almost as well and YaST is a killer configuration tool (most of the time).

I was playing with plasmoids a little bit, and kde is starting to grow on me again, but I'm just much more comfortable in a debian-based distro.

apt(itude) based distros generally handle dependencies much better. Having used Debian and Fedora (from 4 till 11), I have some experience of this. Though in Fedora, yum was much better since F10.

All distros should switch to Pacman, best package manager under the sun.
