I hate Blackberry thread

As it turned out my dissatisfaction with blackberry stemmed not from BIS but vodacoms mismanagement of the service. Since switching to 8ta pages load quickly and I don't get any surprises when I look at my account, even viewing youtube.

9 times out of 10 email arrives on my blackberry quicker than on my iPad so I can't complain about that anymore either.

I'm probably going to get an iPhone next but I'm going to miss the physical keyboard, what I wont miss is the crappy blackberry camera.

There have been millions of debates on the net regarding physical vs virtual keyboard. Fact is some people still prefer physical keyboard no matter how old school it may seem.
I went to every single phone shop yesterday in Canal Walk, and could not find one physical keyboard Android phone anywhere. I wonder how big a part this plays in BBs favour - no affordable Android phones available with physical keyboard.

iphone 4 4s has this bluetooth keyboard that attaches to the phone as a slide out keyboard...saw it on bidorbuy

Can't stand them either, or the users, theres always one dick in the cinema sitting on their phone the whole time, and it's always a blackberry. In any social situation it's always the BB owners looking at their phone 24/7, the iphone and android users keep theirs in their pockets. I don't why this is though, maybe it's because BB's are just so slow, crappy and useless it takes the users 10x as long to do something?

Well I haven't anything besides a 8520 & 9300. The os is primitive. The 9300 is a bit better but not by much. Better keyboard too, quiet.

I haven't used a torch or 9900 so haven't seen os7. So I reserve judgment. But if I had to use a bb for surfing I would be frustrated no end. I appreciate the integration though. But because of the camera I will have to change soon. Need to have a decent camera with me for baba. If it wasn't for that it would still be my primary phone.

Have to agree, its always BBs in the cinema. Like they say, "crackberry" - stuff is addictive. Prob why it appeals to teenagers as much.

You see this a lot overseas, particularly in the UK where carriers bundle thousands of SMSs in their contracts. Everybody is "texting" - regardless of the device they're using.

Also - as I mentioned my BB is blazingly fast now that I'm not longer with Vodacom. Pages load quickly and emails come through as fast as, or faster, than on my iPad.

Alot of people hate BB, but strangely, not one of my friends have ever complained about theirs.

I only started complaining once I realized I would like to actually use an app e.g. to view a PDF (outside of an email),
and little niggles - like switching the profile to silent but then some features e.g. camera still have sounds enabled even with silent profile (i know this sounds really dodgy).

If "snake" and "chopper" are in your list of top apps, you do have an problem with proper applications on your platofrm

I also hate BB...

Apologies for not quoting your entire post. That the BB9900 is expensive in SA is nothing extra ordinary. It is a high end phone and you will pay the appropriate price for it, similar to HTC, Apple , Samsung, etc...

When I was in SA a few weeks ago, I used MTN's BIS. It was very fast ( pages loaded in less than a second ). Network speeds depend on many factors. However, I think Vodacom is useless when it comes to bandwith management.

What you and everyone you know that have a BB9900 should do, is to download the latest V7.1.0.569 OS and flash this. The phone becomes much more responsive with virtually no lag.

I'm not really and apps person, and I regard my BB9900 as a great communications phone. If I want apps, I will use my HTC Desire :)

Great communications phone? Why is it that I so often hear BB users saying that they had "no network" for hours?

+1 on the movies bit..

Wow and I thought blackberry was the **** in South Africa.

I was going to get one, but my one friend says he's blackberry freezes on BBM and its slow and all.

I guess I wont need a Blackberry, after I saw Cell C has 500MB of data for R45.

Why fault the phone if the network its running on is crap ?

Because a Blackberry is useless without BIS (by design, thanks to RIM), and they have done too little to ensure the networks that THEY partner with deliver a sterling BIS experience. At the end of the day, if BIS is not working, but standard data bundles work fine, I will blame Blackberry more than the network. The other phones don't need BIS in order to make use of smartphone features.

You are obviously using an old Blackberry. On OS7 you are able to open PDFs and I have downloaded a free app for OS6. Don't blame BB when the carriers in SA are selling old stock to us or if you are not willing to pay for the high end models.

And yes, there is a reason why the camera will still have sounds - it is to stop idiots from photographing people without their consent. In fact, for a while it was required in the US:
SEC. 3. AUDIBLE SOUND STANDARD.
(a) Requirement- Beginning 1 year after the date of enactment of this Act, any mobile phone containing a digital camera that is manufactured for sale in the United States shall sound a tone or other sound audible within a reasonable radius of the phone whenever a photograph is taken with the camera in such phone. A mobile phone manufactured after such date shall not be equipped with a means of disabling or silencing such tone or sound.

The cost of a high end Blackberry is unjustifiable compared to superior hardware and build quality of Android phones of the same pricing.

Except for the fact that you can actually type on a Blackberry. And yes, I do have both. In fact I have three Android devices and one Blackberry, and when I am out and about, the device in my pocket is the Blackberry.
