I hate ITunes

Why not trade in one (or both) of your iPads and get a Xoom, which btw is an android tablet? Clearly they're so much better so I just don't quite get why you haven't already done so.

I know the Xoom is Android :/

I think a Xoom or Samsung are R7,000.00+ ?

You have mentioned the 3G limit and newsstand issues before; so there's no value in further discussing known issues.

Those are the biggest - but you're right, we'll refrain.

Apple most likely excluded this as they feel it would not be a major end user requirement to have phone functionality on a tablet device

That's another irritation.

I can think for myself - I don't need Apple to tell me what to do, when to do it and how to do it. Give me the option to download and pay for my 3G data should I need to.

There are 190 countries (developing and developed) in the world, 50+ different cell networks and 7 billion people. We all have different needs and wants. Apple shouldn't tell us what we want and rather offer it as an option.

Surely these cannot be the only things that make you apparently envious of your android colleagues?

... I think mocking me about my possible OOB costs, limited 3G service; buggy Newsstand, security/passcode flaw and customisation of my home screen are pretty significant?

It may have been created with American markets in mind but ironically, in the South African context I would say it is anything but daft.

With an out of bundle rate of R1.20 per mb one can't be too cautious.

Personally I reckon the 3G iPad is daft when one can so easily tether the wifi version to one's cell phone and they R1k cheaper.

Rather take the R1k saving and get a Wireless 3G portable hotspot modem Huawei E585.

Well to be honest that is the reason why both my iOS and Android tablets are WiFi only. I dont need a contract for each device and both can use the data from my phone when I travel. Besides saving the extra on 3G radio's and contracts allow me to get more value for the same money.

I think the consumer can decide if they're prepared to take that risk, don't you? The carriers can also disable OOB bandwidth too, cant they? Just like on a computer there are mechanisms in place to monitor bandwidth use.

That's your call but

a) my cellphone doesn't offer the facility to set up a wifi hotspot, like a huge portion of the SA smartphone user base I'm a blackberry owner. :)

b) 25mb of hotspot data is exactly the same as 25mb on my iPad so your initial point about being cautious about OOB still arises, no? I don't see them restricting cellphone data use. If I had an iPhone, set up a hotspot and tethered it to my iPad I'd be able to download apps etc in excess of 20mb right? So why not let me do it directly from the iPad?

c) So I've got my phone, my iPad, and now I should carry around a hotspot modem, just to access the same 25mb of data I want to access directly from my iPad?

I stand by my initial assessment - it's just plain daft. :)

Oh forgot to add, the same 20 MB limitation is creeping into Android markets as well.

Many software titles only have file sizes < 20 MB with apps requiring WiFi to download the extra data. I dont know if this is just leftover form conversion from iOS or part of the AT&T 20 MB limitation. I seen this especially in all the latest Gameloft and EA titles as well as Glu Mobile that gives you no choice in downloading this data via 3G.

And yes it pisses me off as I have to use one phone to supply a Wifi hotspot so I can download the game on another.... go figure.

But they don't, especially not Vodacom !!!
But apple isnt protecting us from Vodacom, they're protecting the networks, at least those few that offer uncapped accounts, from us. :o

Anyone managed to get the 'free' singles on offer today? Can't seem to find them on iTunes.

Yes they are expensive, but you could have bought one on contract, instead of your iPad on contract.

Ok we know you have a few niggly problems with your iPad, but it sounds like there could very well be more right than wrong...

You should know by now, that I agree... but what I don't agree with you on is that an Android Tablet is a superior experience; what I believe is quite the opposite.

What you have mentioned is mostly bugs, these can be fixed...so chill, enjoy your iPad and wait like the rest of us... otherwise you can always sell the iPad(s) and buy one of your "revered" devices... I'd suggest you however read up about Android's bugs (yes as much as it may surprise you to know it has bugs).

I have a question to the Apple fans - and in particular a few of that have responded to me :

Why is it so difficult to understand that some people don't quite share the same level of enthusiasm as you do with the iPad? All over the internet it describes most fans as having Stockholm Syndrome and it's exactly the case.

The Stockholm syndrome is a term in psychology which describes the phenomenon in which a hostage gets sympathy for the hostage-taker. Many iPhone users would also suffer a phenomenon such as Danish analysts believe. Strand Consulting has selected how iPhone users defend the shortcomings of their phone and accept. According to analysts, this one closely resembling those which suffer from the Stockholm syndrome. Missing features were dismissed without any sound at.

You must click on the Music menu first (not home icon) -- then you'll find them under "Free Music" on the right side menu.

Dolby, If you're unhappy with something that we like... then we don't understand why you just don't get rid of it... complaining for the sake of complaining is tiresome.

I'm not unhappy.

But it is not the best tablet out there. Period.

And by the way, I feel that if I do have a question such as 'Can the iPad do xxx?' or 'Does it have xxx?' - I think a better answer would be 'no' rather than defending the decision about why it was left out, why Apple called it correctly again and it's the future.

EDIT : Anyhow - let's rather leave it, as we won't see eye to eye :)

Your actions say otherwise...

Guys,

Don't stress.

I'll sort out any other queries myself.

Thanks for the help though
