I hate ITunes

I've migrated over.

Slowly but surely adding album art to everything ... and I'm getting used to it.

I think I've got from overall 'hate' to 'neutral' now ;) I still immensely dislike the fact that it won't sync with my music directory when I add/remove a folder. I think the other day I changed a tag and when I double clicked it said 'cannot locate ; please locate manually'

I've read the post about the file and syncing, but I'm not sure how to do it :/

If you listen to your ipod on the iPad you can access and stream your entire library over your home network via iTunes using the home sharing feature. Quite handy.

Was loving this feature, until tonight... Don't know why, but for some reason tonight my Ipad is simply not finding my laptop's ITunes libray.... And this after I've finally finished updating all my album art :(

I've rebooted the laptop, turned home-sharing off and back on again - and nothing. Zip. In the Ipad library, when I touch "other", it simply displays "genre" and "composer" as options, no "sharing(?)" anymore... This happen to any of you before?

Have you rebooted the router?

Do you have Internet connectivity on the iPad?

Try switching wifi off and then on, on the iPad. Re establish wifi link....

Are you using the same iTunes account on iPad and laptop?

Are you using the same iTunes account on iPad and laptop? (Yip. All was working beautifully before, until tonight.)

Thanks.

Thanks Sandman... The wifi on-off did the trick. Would you believe me if I told you I did try that just before coming on here, with no result... Me'thinks you have good karma! :)

Good stuff. Could have been a combination of factors. Wireless is temperamental at the best of times.

The same bug rears it's head for me every now and then; I find the best way to fix this without a reboot is to disable / reenable the firewall.

I banished iTunes from all systems years ago.

Reason: It's too imperialistic. If there are reasonable alternatives, I do not install software that wants to take over the system and manage things in ways I don't have absolute control over.

PS. This doesn't mean I think it's lousy for anyone and everyone. If your media are delivered via Apple devices, or if you're not into managing and controlling media yourself, then it might well be fine. But I won't allow it (or QuickTime) near my systems.

It's not without its nuances. Once you learn to accept them it's actually a very competent piece of software. Agree about QuickTime though, rubbish.

I think it was in this thread we discussed compilations and how one needed to right click, add info, add as compilation in order to list as an album.

But I've formatted my PC and NONE of that saved ... so I need to list them all as a compilation once again :/

Surely there's nothing in the standard tag that lists it as a compilation or not?
An Apple thing - so I'll be doing the same thing every time I format?

I posted info about the tags and meta data for compilations, I think it was this thread. Too lazy to search now though. :-)

Yea I did that .... and it worked!

I formatted last night and we're back to square one it seems :/

And how do you add movies?!

I'm adding folder and selecting my movies folder - but nothing is happening. Do I perhaps need t wait for it to finish doing convert from WMA?

EDIT : I think I understand and defend this program ; after trying your best for hours to make it all work correctly, you eventually just sign and let Steve have his way.

I'm forcing myself to use this and I've got extremely irritated. But I'm getting to the point where I just don't care about doing things my way. Steve wins :/

Oh - another question ... about Boxee vs iTunes.

Earlier bwana said I can use iTunes home sharing to stream to my iPad - and so far I have the music on, streaming and working. When I eventually get the movies into the library to stream those - do they have to be in Apple format? Or will iTunes transcode?

Boxee plays *avi, *wmv and *mkv with no hitch ... 480 or 720 .... 700MB or 4GB. I think it just transcode s the files on the fly.

To use your words they have to be apple format.

If you want to do the live conversion stuff you can always use air video or plex.

Well the info should write to the tags, but since you are still having problems one full proof way of moving an iTunes library from pc to pc is just to copy and move the whole iTunes media folder from pc to pc. It takes everything with it, song ratings, song plays, album art, apps, etc.

I answered most of this re iTunes here: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/377760-I-hate-ITunes?p=7272129&viewfull=1#post7272129
Also look back at Bwana's posts -- he provided what I think is a pretty good solution, that also doesn't need conversion.
