I have a Dell Latitude E5530 that shipped with Windows 8, which I dislike intensely! Is there a way to downgrade to Windows 7 without having to purchase a full Windows 7 Licence? If so, how does one go about this? Thanks for any help.

You can get 7 home premium OEM for less than a grand, but rather just customize 8 using classic shell or alternatives first.

Have you tried Windows 8.1 ? It's much better than Windows 8. You can download it via the Windows Store.

I love Windows 8.1, have been converting all my computers. Just have two W7 left, but they are old, will probably leave them.

Windows 8.1 is just as big a pile as windows 8. What makes windows 8.1 better in your opinion ?

For most they can more easily find the shutdown/restart options, start menu is less cluttered by default and the search results don't categorise settings separately etc ;)

Add a start menu (Start8 etc) and the majority of people don't even know the difference.

Windows 8.1 has tweaks that improve the desktop experience making it familiar, but it's still windows 8 yes.

Windows 8 takes a little bit of getting used too. (IMO) The 8.1 Patch did make things a lot more easier, especially for users not using touch screen devices.

Classic shell is an easy way if you must have a start button. Set it up for my computer illiterate GF.:D

You get used to it and then win7 seems a little backwards.
If you really want to use a shell replacement then start8 is better than classic shell but its not free.

I use start8 at home. So worth the price. Can be installed on multiple PCs as well. Used at work for a while too.

I would imagine it isnt possible to revert to Windows 7 from Windows 8/8.1 license, legally and free of charge. As mentioned above, you can try customize Windows 8.1 so that it is much like Windows 7. Getting the start button (relevant links in this thread). I do remember Windows 8.1 had a setting that allowed you to boot straight to the desktop instead of Metro (i think you right click the task bar and select properties).

If you still on Windows 8, then I suggest you update to Windows 8.1 Update 1 - I think Windows 8.1 (with Update 1) is a great improvement to Windows 8.
