I hate Windows 8

Windows 8 is the same as windows 7, they just added a new dimension to make launching programs easier.
The search function works like a dream, no more frustratingly browsing through the control panel to get to one setting.

OP; you're not the only one.
I got it, played with it - decided to remove and put on my old 7 Ultimate license on the laptop.
Happy since!

I have a Dell Latitude E5530 that shipped with Windows 8, which I dislike intensely! Is there a way to downgrade to Windows 7 without having to purchase a full Windows 7 Licence? If so, how does one go about this? Thanks for any help.

Call Dell South Africa. Tell them you have Windows 8/8.1 Pro pre-loaded. Ask them to send you the downgrade disks to Windows 7. Problem solved.

Otherwise use Classic Shell and stick it out for the (rumored) free upgrade to Windows 9 next year. Windows 8.1 is otherwise very good.

You wasted your time, as did many people in this thread it seems.

Windows 8 is objectively better than Windows 7 if you just use Start8. The start button and menu is then identical to Win 7, you can choose to boot straight to desktop and you'll never see the Modern UI again. And you'll be able to enjoy the faster bootup, enhanced Windows Explorer and improved gaming performance.

Update to 8.1 and download stardock start8.. I also disliked the feel of windows 8 but that helped me

Thats exactly what I did on my desktop and ultrabook. Start8 is R50 and its worth every penny. I can't understand the hatred towards Windows 8. Windows 7 is still a fantastic OS and I feel that Windows 8 is just as good, it might not be as amazing as 7 was when it came out but Windows 8 is still a good OS.

I have a friend who uses the Start screen, which I find very frustrating (my Win Server 2012 box has all the shortcuts on the desktop and taskbar to avoid the Start screen too) but he loves it and finds it very quick.

My 2c.

I bought Windows 8 two days after launch because of that MS website set up to sell cheap copies to recent Win 7 buyers (R150). For the first few days it didn't ask for a serial number if you selected 'other' as the manufacturer.

I got Start8 the day I installed Windows 8. If you take the trial they email you a 20% off voucher.

I've enjoyed the OS the entire time I've had it. Haven't laid eyes on the Modern UI in months.

Windows 8 is better than 7, seeing as it's just 7 with some refinements and extra hardware support. BUT, it's hidden under all that ridiculous Metro crap.

Get Start8 for $5 and enjoy never ever having to see Metro/Modern/WTF ever they're calling it this week, again.

July 2014 and people still recommending start8, etc......

There is probably a tool that makes it more like windows 3.11 too :p

I preferred 98SE actually.

One of the things I do like about Win 8 is the minimalist approach to desktop, once you banish the Metro rubbish.

What's wrong with recommending Start8? MS screwed up a large part of Windows 8 and Start8 fixes it. Obviously upgrading from Windows 7 isn't worth the money, but it's by far the easiest solution for new PC buyers.

Iobit Start Menu 8.

It's free and it does the job.

When it comes to a core component of my OS, I don't want something that just 'does the job'. Start8 is a quality product and costs very little.

If you want software and an OS that 'does the job', change to Ubuntu and use all the freeware.

You should really try harder not to reach Uber-level in douchebaggery so early in the week.

Pace yourself lad.

Man up. It was constructive criticism, and valid advice. Don't be so sensitive.

Windows 8.1 is great. Way better than Windows 7. However if you have trouble adapting to change this will be frustrating for you.
