Recently I've been able to play this game, after finishing my computer. I started playing it first, which was perhaps a bad idea when I have about 35 other games lol :p

Anyway, it took me a short while to get into it and learn how the world works, but after that, I've become an addict. I've played over 17 hours now, but my character is only on level 4 (he's a Battlemage). I've done almost 30 quests, yet I feel like I've done only a tiny fraction of what's available.

The graphics are stunning, and it's so much fun. Sound quality is a little low though for a game of this type, which is a pity. That is my only real complaint I guess.

I luckily managed to find the Shivering Isles expansion pack, as well as Knights of the Nine, which I'll get to eventually. I always said that Neverwinter Nights was my favourite pc game, but now I can safely say that Oblivion takes it.

Lastly, I'm running at 1920x1200 with everything enabled except anti aliasing. My 8800GTX can probably do it, but I still need to learn the ins and outs of everything. As is, I barely notice aliasing except when talking to a character. HDR lighting when the sun comes up makes me smile it looks so pretty :)

yeah awesome game....

just be carefull, cause it gets even better later on. Best moment, was finding quests while reading books !! (who woulda guessed ^^)

i recommend u get some add ons though, the highres texture mod (i think its a 256MB min gfx mem, otherwise might be a bit choppy)
and the inventory txt size changer, so thats its more of a pc game, without that huge sized font. Will post links later when i find them

started off as a melee char (those skells are pretty hard later on, and esp goblins) and changed to magical once i finished off the warior guild quest.

Try to complete as many of the quests at low lvl, if u are not going to get a mod to fix the monster lvl thing. Its alot more fun that way.

Looks like we have another addict :)

The game looks better if you use HDR and Bloom, rather than AA. If I remember correctly, it's exclusive. It's either HRD + Bloom, or AA.

As for the quests, you are right. Oblivion has a massive number of quests. Apart from the main quest, you have the 4 guilds, as well as a number of quests in each city. There is also small town that have 1 or 2 quests. Then you have the caves, ruins and forts that you can explore. It's quite a lot to do.

I would suggest to complete the main quest while keeping your level low. The reason is that the monsters level up as you do, but NPC's don't. If you have a high level when doing some of the quests, he NPC's just becomes cannon fodder. It actually becomes a mission to keep them alive. You have to use shield and heal spells on them. The side quests doesn't have such a heavy reliance on NPC's

Oblivion was OK until I installed Obscuro's Oblivion Overhaul (OOO). Basically a completely must-have mod as far as I'm concerned, it's completely massive and changes the whole mechanic of the game. Basically removes or limits levelling by all those around you which means that at level 30 you aren't going to have bandits who suddenly start dropping glass armour. Also adds tons of new armours and weapons, factions and quests. Really, can't tell you how highly recommended.

I got to Level 17 and then Gave up, lol theres just tooo much to do

If I can give you a tip: Get the Azura's Star (a reusable soul gem) and enchant your weapon with 1 second Soul Trap on touch (or target for ranged) and max Absorb Health. Every time you kill a creature you recharge the Azura's Star and you can use that to recharge your weapon again :D

The more you hit your enemies the more health you gain.

I've been playing it on my 360. Feels like I'm getting nowhere though. Played around 10 hours, which is like childs play compared to my 1600+ hours in Guild Wars :D

Oblivion is just about the only game I have enjoyed this century.

Awesomeness ++

I thought the game was a wonderful world to be immersed in. I think the melee combat system could have been better, something a little more stuctured like fable perhaps. Guilds are really great in this game, thats where I spent most of my time. The game engine is actually rather powerful, and it ran on my crappy pc without too much "lag" ^_^

lol, god I loved this game! I must say, one of the most mature and enjoyable games i've ever played...
With regards to the game engine, it's amazing. I mean, my lil x1600pro and amd 3200+ with 1gig of ram ran the game pretty darn well! Sure it wasn't on highest anything, but when rolling with medium graphics you don't really care much about the graphics as everything still looks pretty much amazing!

I must have spent about 100+hours playing that game, and well, sure I finished the main quest, i still had so much still to do, then my pc caught a virus, and well thats when my oblivion days were over lol. (ps, I hate to say it, but I had a pirated version of the game lol,)

:( .... /me is having those sound issues. Where you get lag in battle .... even the quiet feet mod didn't work ...... but otherwise, the game of the decade :D

i loved this game. the magic skills get a bit too powerfull. once you can do 100% chameleon and a huge drain life touch you pretty much are invincible.

Hmmm...
Just started playing this on the 360, pretty awesome, I played this for a while on my PC, and I am pretty surprised about the ease of movement/battle with the 360 controller.

Pretty addictive game, I am spending more time at work thinking about what to do tonight in the game than actually working. :)

Pretty much any skill can become too powerful, I had a warrior type character that had 103% damage reflection from a combination of armour/rings, I didn't even have to fight :D

For some reason the only thing that could hurt me were arrows.

A few more hours played earlier, and yet more enjoyable times. I'm back in Imperial City now, doing some central quests again. Also taking part in the Arena, and building up my gold stash. I love taking my time in there, letting the other guy land a few blows for fun. Then I whip out my "Callandor" enchanted blade, and one or 2 strokes later I'm the World Heavyweight Champ :p

I have seen a couple of those Oblivion gates opening up now in the country side, so they will make for yet more quests as I pass them by.

I'm not having sound issues per se, it's just that I have a X-Fi card and it's connected to my Sony 6.2 channel surround system in 5.1 mode. The audio and sound is good, but compared to Doom 3 or even Halo, it feels a bit underwhelming. Almost as if sound was a secondary thought to the developers. Then again, not everybody has the luxury of my set up, so it's understandable.

It still stuns me to think of how big the whole game world is. I'm going to have a hard time playing any other game after this lol. I've got some mods on my big collection of NAG and PCFormat disks, so I'll search through them when I get the chance.

I love this game :D

I am the od man out here. I hated this game. The story just was way too boring for me. Also felt like my actions had no consequences on how it would play out.

You can force AA through the NVIDIA or ATI driver control panel with HDR on. I don't know what card you need for it, though.

Anyway, yeah... Oblivion is insane. I got it when it came out on PC and I still play it every now and then.

Another reason it pwns is the enormous number of user mods created for it. (Only for the PC version, though.)

Check here.

PC rawks. :)

I wouldn't say I ever hated the game, but I certainly understand where you're coming from in terms of consequences. And again, I really really really suggest using OOO. Suddenly the world is more diverse, levelling up actually means something, killing becomes way more satisfying and you definitely do feel that there is more consequence to your actions.

Today I decided to start from scratch, so I deleted my save games, installed Knights of the Nine, and Shivering Isles. I guess I got too rushed into the game, jumping from place to place. So now I'm doing things in a more orderly fashion.

I'm not entirely sure how you play Knights or Shivering Isles, but it somehow seems intergrated into the main game rather than being stand alones. There was a quest in Anvil that wasn't there before the expansion packs for example that I think is related to Knights of the Nine.

One thing that does make me nuts but is another testament to it's reality is time. In Nverwinter Nights I could come back at any time and finish off my quests, the people never went anywhere or slept. Not so in Oblivion. If the person has locked their house and is sleeping, you simply must wait till the next day (if you don't wish to break in that is)

Now to check out that site general_koffi posted :)
