I met an EFF voter

Dude has an engineering degree and is a postgraduate student at a top university. He told me he is going to vote for the EFF and admires Mugabe. He tried to "convert" me for a bit and when I started talking about populism and so forth he went quiet and stopped trying. He truly gobbles up the populist rhetoric of both Malema and Mugabe.

I pointed out to him that Mugabe could have started land redistribution much earlier without even the need for the violence as he had the government, but only started doing so however noble his motives and the betrayal he felt from Britain.

So all this kind of made me wonder about how everyone thinks the typical EFF voter is some angry unemployed youth. This guy is none of those, he simply buys the populist rhetoric of the EFF.
 
Book smarts does not equal common sense, trust me
 
I know a company director supporting the EFF, but I think this have more to do with turning his back on the ANC due to developments and not wanting to vote anything other than black.
 
And to add, I have only ever seen two people wearing those red berets. This guy wasn't at least wearing one /phew
 
Lots of people were going to vote for Agang until that abortive "merger" with the DA so lots of free agents floating about undecided looking for a new home.

In my conversation with my EFF voting buddy, I told him that I don't believe people should below/support political parties like they do their sports teams. It's why we get such crazy loons all over the world. A political party must re-earn your vote every election based on deeds or what they promise if they're new.

Well, he could still be angry, even if not unemployed. Was he? I think there's a general undertide of anger among the general populace, in addition to the overt displays of anger from the disaffected and disenfranchised. Much of it is probably focused on the ANC's inability to deliver on its grand promises, and much of it is general economic unhappiness.

What did try to persuade you with? Parroting the populist rhetoric, as you pointed out?
 
My cousin also seems to support the EFF, however he was always a nutcase

Actually he did say he is unhappy with the ANC and feel they have done nothing in 20 years. Which he paradoxically uses as his reason for admiring Mugabe's "daring":wtf:. While he blames all of Zim's troubles on sanction I probably should have asked him if he'd like SA to be like Zim with everyone of any useful skill fled and the rest here begging, etc.

Is the EFF not just ANC version 2?
 
Weren't there white farmers in Zim trying to get sanctions lifted the other day? They're not really hurting Mugabe.
 
I have also heard that young EFF supporters struggled in apartheid and that apartheid is continuing up to today, something which the ANC couldn't cure.

Looking at the EFF voter demographics, the supporters seems to be misled.

The ANC calls the DA to return apartheid, the EFF calls that apartheid is still here...

This EFF supporter, did he start to work yet or did he pursue practical? Also note that Mugabe wants and attempted genocide.

In the land of the blind the one-eyed man is king. He is probably a cynical politician at heart and realises the EFF will be one of the parties where it'll be easier to rise up in the ranks....

..or he is just a ****ing moron
 
EFF will surprise this coming elections.

The way things are going we might yet see ANC dangerously close to 50%.
