Hi.

I'm new here, and always relied on this site to give answers when i needed em.

Ok so i have this web server, well more like a LAN server, and I want it so that I can access it on the net, like a http/ftp server.

The problem is, I can't access my Pc if i type the IP address in. I have enabled port forwarding to port 80, and 25 on my router. It wasn't working still, so i restarted the router. I went on to a site that can check for ports and it said 80 was then open. Great! I typed my new ip in the browser and I still couldn't access it......Then i checked the port checker again, and now port 80 was closed.

What am I doing wrong?????

Im trying to use abyss web server x1 for windows and i can get on to my pc from the other LAN'd pcs connected to the network, but when i try go via the net, it doesn't work.

Could my ISP be blocking port 80?

Any help would be appreciated!

Edit: My ISP is mweb

Why don't you just rent a web server from Amazon?

Then you don't need a physical server, don't have to worry about additional security on your own network & bandwidth is never a problem. Some of the providers will even backup your web server for you, or you can DIY.

I have a server already, Its for my own uses that I want to set it up that I use mine as a server. It would save costs

Unfortunately I don't know that Web server software but reviewing its access logs if there are any should shed some light

For downloading music to your external hard drive and starting a DJ business? :D Just kidding.

You can use a different port for your web server, just make sure you have configured a rule on your Windows Firewall & router. Also double-check your web server's config. You should be ok then.

You need to setup DDNS on your router... www.dyndns.org.

Yeah I'd forgot about that!

It seems like because Abyss server was stopped, it closed the port. I just restarted my PC ,and the port it now open!

Thanks anyway!!!! I just signed up for an account at dyndns and I'm gonna be testing it soon!

Thanks again

Yeah that was the prob. I checked and it wasn't running.......*facepalm*

The issue lies with 2 things
  • MWEB Blocking port 80 to your router
  • Your Internal router's 'Admin' port is also 80, you need to change this to for eg 443 / 8081
To fix the MWEB issue, go to your account settings online, and remove the 'account protection'

The other is router specific

Also WAMP > ALL

Login to your Mweb ADSL account settings and make sure the incoming firewall is not enabled.

ADSL Protected Access
Helps to keep your ADSL connection safe from hackers who may try to steal your bandwidth.
If you are unsure, we recommend enabling this service.
PROTECTED ACCESS: [ DISABLED ]
