Hey guys, I'm having a problem with Origin. And what infuriates me most is, is that this problem only affects 2 of my games that require Origin (Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Dead Space 3 respectively). The rest of the games I have that requires Origin to work, works without problems. These 2 games REFUSE to boot/start and to add insult to injury, sometimes via some miracle the games work but then the next time I try to play the game, once again the games refuse to boot... I don't know what I should do anymore. Keep in mind, that I launch all of them from Steam and not Origin itself. What could I do to solve this?

Things I've tried:
Reinstalling the games
Verifying game files
Running the EXEs with admin rights
Deleting specific things like deleting shader caches, etc and verifying the game files afterwards.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Kind Regards
PrimeSteak

Launch from Origin.. Seem to recall Steam providing no guarantees that non-steam games will launch flawlessly from steam..

That's annoying, I see both games are on fitgirls site so I would just go grab them there seen as you are a legit customer that has already paid for those games. Only seems fair in my books

See, you would think that would work but no. After trying to launch the game from Steam, the orange play button on the game's page in my origin library is disabled. And launching the game from Origin also leads to **** all...

Probably origin feeling butthurt for you ignoring to use it..

It is. I cleared Dead Space 3 once with Origin and everything, it worked perfectly. I had an Origin Access sub then. Then after I purchased the game on Steam last December, the game worked once and never again. The same happened with SWBF2, which worked once, stalled on the loading screen when I chose the campaign mode and I alt+F4'd. Also never worked again, except one time miraculously.

My Battlefront 2 launches from Origin.

I would start trouble shooting outside of steam / origin.

There might be something stopping them from launching.

Can try stuff like Afterburner, Geforce Experience etc.

Launch the game and check event viewer.

Could also be key related, check the key under properties in steam, check the discussions in steam for that game. Maybe more common of an issue than you think.

Not sure if this is relevant to your situation, but I had a similar issue with Forza Horizon 4 not launching via Steam but all my other games worked. BitDefender was the culprit. I simply had to add the ForzaHorizon4.exe as an exception in the Advanced Threat Defense section - not the normal exception list. Hope you get it sorted.

You can try the following

Try Clearing out the origin cache

  1. Ensure Origin is fully closed by clicking the Origin Menu and selecting Exit.
  2. Delete the following folders:
  • Origin folder - Found in C:\ProgramData\
  • Origin folder - Found in C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\
  • Origin folder - Found in C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\
  • Note: These folders are hidden by default, and the player will need to un-hide to be able to locate them.
to unhide folders:
-type folder options in the search field in the start menu
-click on the view tab
-under the hidden folders options click show hidden files, folders, and drives- apply the setting and click ok

The origin play button greys out when you launch origin via steam game. (this happens for me with Star wars Jedi fallen order)

Launch origin manually, without going through steam.

Then launch the game through origin, or steam.

I've launched Origin on its own, without even starting Steam and the play button is already greyed out. (Yet Titanfall 2 is a-ok)

Maybe time to consider a fresh OS install OP?
If game files are sitting on a different drive to C: , you could get away with having the launchers relink those files without having to download again, although for the games giving you trouble it might be better to just start from scratch

I added the exe to Avast's advanced exceptions section, will try to boot after I cleared the Origin Cache as well.
