I am aware about hippo. I want to know who he is using to insure his G6 gti for 700 bucks.
Thats a car that retails over 300k and the premium is costing him R700pm?:wtf:

I think he posted in another thread that he pays only R700, and I have asked with which company, no reply. Makes it hard to believe.

Sorry dude! But you're correct R700 is cheap for a GTi!
 
Yep, that is one thing that I was concerned about. It probably did have the ****e driven out of it.

Now I am considering to just go in and get a new Volvo C30. I will only be able to afford the basic version with no add ons. I would have loved to have the blind spot information system, or the nice 10k sound system add on :D. I will see if I can afford it.
 
Better choice buying a new car or even better still a demo model that comes with a service plan but beware Volvo's are expensive to maintain after the service plan runs out.Their parts are expensive and nine out of ten times when you are involved in a accident your car gets written off because of the very expensive body parts.
 
The Volvo's come with a 5 year maintenance plan. I could sell the car at that point, though I am interested to know how much a major service will cost. When you say Volvo parts are expensive, how expensive? I mean relative to what? Comparable to beemers, mercs, renaults?

I wonder if they accept trade ins when you buy a new Volvo. I am still wondering about the price of services and parts though. I would prefer the Volvo to the Suzuki Swift.
 
That's where the "for life"-bit comes in - the only realistic hope you have of trading in a Volvo is doing so on the purchase of a new... wait for it... wait for it... Volvo.

Mate, I worked in the car industry with an ex-Volvo sales guy for 3 years. Don't do it. ;)

a friend of mine had a Volvo estate and a motorcycle ran into the back of him, the car was only two years old, and the car was scrapped because the quote for the repairs was R150 000 which was more than two thirds of the value of the car. for part prices of various cars Google the Kingsley report for and comparisons of various makes. Toyota , Volkswagen and Opel parts and services are fairly cheap compared to other makes.

Even if the cars on your parents name you wont get that anywhere...

Okay, once again I am undecided. With so much against Volvo I am going to consider the GTi and the Swift again. How does one go about getting the AA to check the vehicle out for you? If the turbo packs up will the car still be able to drive? How long will it take to fix? If I go with a 2nd hand car I will make sure that I have 15k saved up in case I need to fix something expensive.

Thoughts?
 
Have a look at a number of AA reports on the net and tell me whether they are useful and look professional.
