I've done a bit of looking around the various ISP sites, but I thought I'd post here to hear suggestions/opinions. At the moment I'm leaning towards Afrihost 1mb uncapped, or trying Openweb Gold again.

A little background:

There are 2 of us sharing an ADSL line and both of us game online a fair bit. I'm looking for an uncapped account as we do about 30gb-70gb a month.

In the past I've had Openweb Gold and while the service was great for downloading and browsing, we had bad latency with online gaming. I had to contact them many times about it and each time I was given a new account which worked OK for a few days, but then the cycle started again. Their T&Cs are very vague and when emailed for more detail about what protocols are shaped/throttled, I do not get a direct answer, just another account to test.

I've most recently been with Axxess. The service was good until we reached the 'top 20%' threshold for 512 accounts. From there we got bumped down to a 2 star rating (2nd lowest) and have been throttled to speeds slower than 384kbps. Dial-up had it better. Simple web pages and images take forever to load up. What gets me is that if you offer an uncapped service, why penalise customers for making use of uncapped? It wasn't like we were downloading 100s of GB per month, rather about 1gb per day. Gaming on Axxess is good but I cannot handle the throttling on browsing. So Axxess is now out of the question.

What I am looking for is a 1mb uncapped account which isn't throttled and will give me good latency for online gaming. I'm willing to pay up to R900pm for something that just works.

only uncapped without throttling is gold uncapped or mweb, so stick with the gold or go mweb.

Go mweb
Had no problems with online gaming
I'm actually pretty good for noob online

How is MWEB for browsing? I stopped MWEB last year and the reason was because of slow browsing. Is it any better now?

Mweb is pretty good for online gaming, unless you try to join games hosted by SAIX/Telkom.

Apparently Mweb uncapped is much better in the Cape, since they're on SAT-3, where as the other Mweb users are on Seacom.

Hmm think I might just give MWEB a try again. Has anyone had joy on Afrihost uncapped?

Thanks for the replies

I am Afrihost uncapped customer who trying to hit the ESC button, they are throttling very badly. 1-2 Kbps or even 200-400Bytes speed i was getting one time but from last 2 weeks they are letting me download unlimited and they says 450Mb/Day is unshaped. I am going either Mweb or Openweb.
