Correct answer. In the US there are companies like Gazelle.com that will buy your old tech for a good price (right now $250 for an iPad2 16gb 3g) but I'm sure that price is going to drop after the 3 is announced.

How much did the iPhone 4S improved on the iPhone 4. Not much IMO. Still looks the same and can still do the same thing, except for some apps(like Siri - yawn).

Every second guy?? You'll have to look real hard where I live, to find a iPhone. It's Androids and BB all over the place. The few iPhone fans that was here all turned to Android. I know only on guy with a iPad2 and his phone is a new Nexus.

Anyone have ipad sales figures for SA? I was surprised at the relatively small number of iphones (and androids) on Vodacom's network. I imagine MTN and Cell C to be less.

Vodacom CEO Pieter Uys revealed that they currently have 4.1 million smartphones on their network, with very strong growth expected over the next few years.

BlackBerry leads the pack with 1.6 million active devices on the Vodacom network, followed by 220,000 iPhones and around 200,000 Android devices.

I think with the FNB promo and that FNB sells an iPad a minute, the number of iPads should be pretty large now?
 
I've considered selling my ipad to get the ipad3 when it comes out but it's going to be quite a wait still to be without. What we know of the iPad3, or at least based on pretty solid rumours, is that it will be a very significant upgrade - probably greater than ipad1 -> iPad2. At the very least we'll have a retina display screen, which alone actually is just about reason enough to upgrade - not to mention the possibility of 4G LTE, 1gb ram, faster processor, and whatever else they'll cram in there. Yea I reckon if they just simply made an iPad2 with a proper retina display it would be a fairly justifiable upgrade to be honest.
 
I have a friend who says it's retarded how Apple fanboys will buy the new iPad and iPhone every year. Meanwhile he owns FIFA 08,09, 10, 11 & 12.
 
Don't get me wrong - I'd upgrade if there were decent features

Butit hasn't even been announced and I haven't even seen a picture, let alone a review or anything other information. I wouldn't go put my iPad 2 up for sale either, as there could be something that is a step backwards - just as the ATV1 and ATV2.

Or there could be upgrades that are pointless and not worth the effort or cost.

Just my view *shrug*

They're not really comparable, the ipad product evolves in a different way, but for interest sake why do you say the ATV2 is a step backwards?

I could also be talking out of my ass, seeing as how I've never actually used any of apples products. I think I once saw someone using an iphone though.

I few months back I saw an ATV2 for sale - and the reason was he was going back to ATV1.

I Googled and most preferred the first generation because of the internal HDD as opposed to steaming (which most people said was slower). It had more connectivity and a full USB port too. Some even preferred the layout of the initial remote and the OS
 
I don't believe this is unique to Apple users. Plenty of people regularly upgrade to the latest gadget.

Having read everything :D...

Having an Apple product apparently puts you in the cool list. Apple has surpassed the $500 billion mark in terms of stock value, yet their actual value is a fraction of that. I'd rather invest in Google stocks at $600+ each, than take a chance on Apple. Apple's stocks are extremely volatile on a day-to-day basis, not to mention the hour-to-hour fluctuations.

Where Apple is strong is that they have a lot of after-market products enhancing their original product. Where they are weak is the lack of non-proprietary interfaces to their products (because it makes the after-market product so much more expensive due to licensing fees). I'd choose a straight MP3 player over an iPod, because if you don't know what you're doing, you run the risk of losing your entire collection, or at the very least - weeks of headaches sorting it out.

People want an Apple so they can be cool, yet in the world of Geekdom, having an Apple is the most uncool thing ever. Apple appeals to the sheep in the market, not the people who really want the most usability out of their device.
 
Well I for one sold my iPad 2 and kept the 1st gen purely because of the security issues(Time gap for jailbreaks)

If they follow the same design for iPad 3 I can see myself not getting it either. I know most people dont mind stock but I prefer Jailbreaking just so I can get my Fav Open source projects working. for example XBMC
