So yesterday I ported.
I went to the Davenport, Durban store and told the woman I wanted to port. She filled out some stuff then gave me the simcard and realized she hadn't done the port. So while filling in stuff for another sim I asked her how to get the 15c/MB data rate. She seemed confused and then told me that there is no way to get a data rate lower than 99c without going contract. After making 100% sure I was understanding I walked out. Got to my car and read the pamphlet, and low and behold it clearly had 15c/MB bundles for prepaid. Went back in and dealt with someone else who knew what they were talking about.
Mr. Cell C, you need to make sure these people know what they are talking about.

Anyway, he was done in 3 minutes. About 3 hours later my Virgin sim stopped working. At that point I realized that I had got a full-sized sim instead of a micro (I've got a Lumia 920, and the Cell C guy knew that). So found a picture of a micro sim online and grabbed a pair of scissors. It worked perfectly :D. (I found this morning that there are tons of guides to show you how. Whoops).

All in all, extremely painless, and my phone was over to Cell C a few hours after getting the sim. Nice!

I'm getting 12Mb/s down and 1.7Mb/s up: https://fplkww.bn1.livefilestore.co...QQTArscieQm9TO/wp_ss_20121212_0007.png?psid=1

Also, while on Virgin the "sim applications" never worked. One thing that I was worried about was that Windows Phone doesn't support multi-staged USSD. But the sim apps actually work perfectly, and I takes a few taps to buy a bundle without knowing any codes. Yay :)

Hi

Welcome aboard and thank you for choosing CELL©.

We have sent an email to the store to provide necessary training for all their entire staff and thank you for providing us with feedback.

Regards

i want to port to cell c too. I want to know, mtn has mtnzone and vodacom has yebo 4 less, what does cell c have in competition with those price plans?

Cell C beats them all on standard tariffs. :)

Also, I don't like the idea of having to wait till the evening or weekend to use the competition's silly discounts. 99 cents per minute (billed per second) works out way cheaper any way you look at it.

Over and above that, it looks like they also have some weekend thing. When I recharged I got an equal value to use over the weekend.

Good move. I've also had issues with Cell C store staff not knowing how things work, but mine was slightly more complicated than data rates.

I moved to Cell C over 2 years ago and never looked back.

is the over the weekend free airtime restricted to calling only cell c numbers?
SMS not restricted (not sure) and can be also used for data 99c/MB. But if you have activated any data bundle, for the next 30 days your OOB rate drops to 15c/MB.

one of the best decisions I made was to move away from Vodacom. enjoy!

Same here!! Was struggling majorly with Vodacom. Ported to Cell C about 2 weeks ago - been great so far!! Real happy I made the move :)

I changed to Cell C as well from Vodacom :)

Cant wait until I can post a message like yours in October, I've been sitting with this for months now, with crappy reception on VC.

What does this deal cost at the moment?
I got the 3gb/365days deal but I used it up so quickly. The 2gb x 12 months looks like it will suit me better in the long run.

Can i port my vodacom number to cellc half way through my cell c contract?
i use to have 2 contracts, in November i canceled my vodacom contract, and at the end of the month all my vodacom airtime will be finished.
can i port my vodacom number to my cell C contract?
