So yesterday I ported.
I went to the Davenport, Durban store and told the woman I wanted to port. She filled out some stuff then gave me the simcard and realized she hadn't done the port. So while filling in stuff for another sim I asked her how to get the 15c/MB data rate. She seemed confused and then told me that there is no way to get a data rate lower than 99c without going contract. After making 100% sure I was understanding I walked out. Got to my car and read the pamphlet, and low and behold it clearly had 15c/MB bundles for prepaid. Went back in and dealt with someone else who knew what they were talking about.
Mr. Cell C, you need to make sure these people know what they are talking about.
Anyway, he was done in 3 minutes. About 3 hours later my Virgin sim stopped working. At that point I realized that I had got a full-sized sim instead of a micro (I've got a Lumia 920, and the Cell C guy knew that). So found a picture of a micro sim online and grabbed a pair of scissors. It worked perfectly
. (I found this morning that there are tons of guides to show you how. Whoops).
All in all, extremely painless, and my phone was over to Cell C a few hours after getting the sim. Nice!
I'm getting 12Mb/s down and 1.7Mb/s up: https://fplkww.bn1.livefilestore.co...QQTArscieQm9TO/wp_ss_20121212_0007.png?psid=1
Also, while on Virgin the "sim applications" never worked. One thing that I was worried about was that Windows Phone doesn't support multi-staged USSD. But the sim apps actually work perfectly, and I takes a few taps to buy a bundle without knowing any codes. Yay
