First off hello. Never posted before despite registering while back but have been dedicated reader for quite while now.

Now to topic. I am due for upgrade this month with VC and I have set my mind on iPhone 4 since l fell in love with iPad (the iPad has successfully converted me to be an Apple lover). I cannot believe that VC has no stock. Yes, I see the "iphone 4-stock" list thread is relatively active but surely something must have been delivered since I last checked 2half weeks ago. Apparently not, they say and yes I have phoned almost all the VC shops in town. MTN I hear has but definately not jumping ship.

Patience has never been my strong point but I think I have lasted pretty well so far. I just want a new thing to play with. This lack of stock issue is driving me nuts :wtf:. Surely supply cannot be as bad as it seems. Does MTN and VC have different suppliers?
 
Supply is as bad as it seems. Demand is still super-high worldwide and supply to South Africa is not a high priority for Apple.
 
Pity you don't want to swap over, ordered my iPhone4 on Thursday and the courier is on his way to deliver it now. via MTN direct.
 
go to mtn vodacom are *******s with the iphone 4, they wont even hold a 7 day OBF policy on them
 
As much as I want the iPhone I don't know if I could damn my soul by moving to MTN. Ok, they maybe not that bad but I see them as second rate network provider in terms of coverage and offers. Surely someone would back me up here and say Vodacom all the way.
 
I pay R380 a month with a R550 pay in and I get R200 airtime and 300mb's and a 16gb iPhone4. Perfect for my needs...took 2 working days from order to in hand. Got it about 20minutes ago.

Nah dude.....From what I understand, MTN has better deals available for the iPhone - data/price etc. As far as coverage - I think they are pretty much neck and neck.
As for size and penetration (sorry, that sounds pornographic, but was unintended :D ) MTN has the largest subscriber base in Africa - they have exceeded 130 million subscribers (Africa/Middle East/Russia) !!! I think Vodacom are currently sitting with 35 million when I last checked - just checked, Vodacom have 39.4 million

I'm so weaked willed when it comes to this iPhone. The peer pressure is getting to me. I have been trying to find comparisons for MTN vs VC and the info needed for MNP.
 
MTN and Vodacom both have the iPhone 4 16gb for R380 a month with no pay in. On Vodacom you get R275 airtime and 110mb data a month. On MTN you get R200 airtime, 150mb a month and 25 sms's. (I think).

So in my opinion they're both about equally good deals.
 
yeah, the lack of stock is on the edge of converting me to bb, ive been n loyal iphone supporter since the beginning, how is it possible that apple can't supply enough iphones, they must surely be a billion dollar company with people assigned to manage en make recommendations regarding the demand... build more manufacturing companies or something... Ive been waiting for more than a month.. VC can't even tell me when the stock will be available...

I completely agree that both offer good deals especially at R379pm (although I do favour the greater airtime value of VC) my concern is that moving to MTN would ruin my joy in the product. As I understand it...and please correct me if your know for sure...but Vodacom's infrustructure is better suited for iPhone in terms of the data functionality. Plus the billing problems and regular complaints of no reception coverage etc put me off MTN.

Also, one shop says I must call back tomorrow as they expecting stock and hopefully with that some iPhones but they cannot guarantee anything which seems to be the case everywhere.
 
I think MTN have almost as good a network, but the billing issues and complaints are what keep me away.

Personally I'm just gonna buy one outright, that way it's done immediately. Just waiting to sell my 3GS
 
So I phoned the shop today like the guy requested I do and the outcome is still unfavourable. That pushed me to call MTN to find out about moving to them on condition that I get that the iPhone. Woman was very unhelpful with the process. To sum it up...it is my problem and they will be waiting to take me on as customer when the I am able. I see a Samsung Galaxy S in my future if I don't get my iPhone soon. I may be reaching my limit on waiting.
