I'd go i7 however for GAMING the AMD is better

What? Where did you get this info from? I've noticed you really do put on the hate when it comes to AMD. I frequent at least 5 hardware review sites and havent heard of this. The only game that ATI loads slower in is Battefield 2, which has already been fixed with a driver update.
 
Ya they fixed bfbc2 for the single card users, the crossfire okes still suffering with no new profile update :( and if you keep the old profile it loads like forever.

New socket to replace the I7 will be coming out next year.
The bad news is, there will be no compatibility between current LGA1366 Core i7s and the new socket. Intel is planning on launching a new socket for every new major CPU revision as it’s continuing to incorporate more and more features into future CPUs, which means pin-counts and sockets will inevitably change.

all in all I still think am3 is the best route to go at least most of am3 mobo's can handle the new 6 core cpu's coming out.And it will cost just as much as a I7 cpu will now.

Oh, my error - maybe my GTX285 loads faster than my friend's 4890 - he seems to think this is an Ati problem. Don't mind us, we're only hardcore gamers so what do we know. :p

First off, the GTX285 is a better card then the 4890. Then loading times are not solely dependant on the GPU. His CPU, RAM, and HDD all play a role as well. But hey, what do I know - I use facts whereas think that maybe its an ATI problem.
 
Actually you are wrong archer, my cpu, hdd and memory is pretty much awesome i reckon and with ati in bfbc2 the loading time between maps 25 seconds, nvidia 5 seconds. They have fixed it now but i cannot run my crossfire because there are no profiles for it.

So it is not always dependent on cpu and what not. Amd released 10.4 preview for this problem. Not helping the crossfire guys but i have been schooled to never ever use crossfire again.
 
Yes I know about BFBC2, but saying it as a general statement is plainly incorrect.

You highlight in my post the cheapest i7 mobo then you went on to show me a 1156 board for 800 bucks so i was wondering how my i7 920 would run on the mobo.

It seems like there are i7 1156 cpu's and i7 1366 cpu's which i think it kinda stupid. That mobo says i7 support so i am wondering if people think a i7 920 for instance would run on it if they never noticed the socket.

So a 1366 i7 mobo is over 2k

Ohkay, lga1156 i7 has been out for quite a while, i also don't see why a total noob who doesn't know about sockets will want to build a pc just by looking at a pricelist

The chipset also gives away the type of socket. Currently only X58 is for 1366, so obviously P55 and H55 is for 1156

Check the Foxconn flaming blade GTI and the MSI X58M. Those are cheap. Just over 1k

The 1366 socket supports the faster DDR1600 RAM whereas the 1156 socket only supports the DDR1333 RAM, hence the difference in price.

Nope, both support DDR3 1600. 1366 supports Tri-Channel memory, that's one of the main differences, as well as having a couple of other changes, such as PCIE.

try wootware.co.za, bought my rig there and the help was very good, prices better on most parts
 
5850 is perfect for a 23" screen. Runs everything I play at max settings at around 50-70 fps depending on the game
 
I would not suggest crossfire man, been nothing but a pain in my arse. Performance is very good but driver support is a nightmare.

I should have taken the 4k i spend on my 2 5770's and bought a 5870 or 5850 rather.
