i3,i5 or 965BE......

Most aftermarket coolers will do fine. Coolermaster TX3, Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 pro, etc etc. Just make sure they have socket AM3 support.

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus is what you want, right up there with the best coolers and only R300!

I remember a short while back you were recommending to forumites that they should get xfire 5770s over a single 5850/5870 :D

/ah nvm :D

Ya i recall that as well :D but in fairness my 5770's are awesome i just never factored in the piss poor ati driver updating system. When you get it right they work seriously well but far to many driver issues for my liking :(.

If ati would just allow us to make profile's for our games there would no problems. 5770 is still better in performance than a 5850 but drivers :( ahhhhhhhhh nightmare

So, its a few hundred rand more expensive, doesnt work well due to drivers, uses up more space, more power, produces more heat and noise, and is slightly faster than a 5850. I thought everyone knew Crossfire was jus a terrible idea?

Most games it's faster than 5870 if I remeber...

When xfire works, it works pretty dam well (around 75% gain), so its far from a terrbile idea. The main problem is that profiles dont seem to be released in a timely manner.

What are you talking about? 5770 crossfire cost me 4k and only because i bought vapor x but they are slightly faster or equal to a 5870 which at the time was 5k. Much better than a 5850.

Crossfire is far from a terrible idea and does work but as i mentioned ati let crossfire down with slow profile release and slow problem correction.

The things you list are not a problem at all, you don't even make mention of the drivers taking long and that is why i basically dislike it now. If ati could just keep releasing fixes and drivers for the crossfire guys it would be insane. The frustration comes from waiting 3-6 weeks for a fix to problems you encounter and nothing to do with heat or power.

If ati could just bring out drivers and fixes faster then xfire would be amazing.

But they're doing a massive reworking of their driver teams now. You should see an improvement.

I have no idea why people need to push these extremes? I have an nVidia GTX 285 & everything works just fine.

Vapor X, on the other hand is an extremely good idea. ;)

@ flatspin - it is not about pushing to the extremes but personal preference for knowing that you can enjoy whatever you do regarding graphics on your pc....lets say i give you gt210 and 23'' monitor.will you be able to up settings in crysis without having any lag?no i don't think so.but....i give you gtx285/hd5870 and said monitor and you will enjoy gaming even more...
