Just ordered a Core i7 2600k from Prophecy.

Does anyone know if it comes with a cooler?

I just saw the Take2 listing for it, which says NO COOLER

I should have my new toys tomorrow but now I'm wondering if I'm going to be disapointed and have to wait longer to build.

I'll contact Prophecy tomorrow I guess.

eh, Just noticed on a recent Rectron pricelist, looks like it's true, they don't :(

I think the 'k' models don't come with a cooler but the others do..
If you buying 'k' it's safe to assume you want to overclock and have a good cooler or you have no idea what 'k' stands for and bought it just cause :p

I don't plan on OC'ing it just yet, I was only going to get a better cooler later on for it.

Lol of course they come with coolers! The net is full of comments about how bad they are though. The heatsink is about half the height of the old socket 1156 ones.

If you're getting one without a cooler, it just means it's a tray CPU, intended for OEM's and so on. Boxed (retail) versions come with an Intel cooler, as always.

Edit: and no, the K means it's got an unlocked multiplier. Otherwise the 2 are identical. Both are available in trays or boxes.

Source : I've got one.

Hm, I best contact Prophecy in the morning, Take2 and Rectron explicitly state they do not.

/me googles for fairly priced good coolers

:wtf:

See my post above. They're most likely tray cpus. And try the Coolermaster Hyper TX3. It's great, much better than the stock one, and only R200

Hi nihilist,

I built a client's system with a 2500k this weekend and it had a cooler on it. I can't see it stating no cooler on my pricelists, but I can check with our suppliers for you tomorrow morning.

Regards,
Fred

I think my existing Cooler Master Hyper N520 might do the trick.. I'm sure it comes with the fitting screws for Socket 1156, which will fit my 1155 i7 I think.

Are the mounting pins the same for 1155 & 1156 ? From what I've seen that's the case.. I'm jumping from my old Q6600 to the 2600k, so mind the ignorance ;)

Yes, they're the same, for once. So you can throw away the little new one and keep using your older, bigger heatsink.

Loving my i7 2600k :D

It did come with a cooler, I'm using it for now until I decide what after market cooler to get.
