Sounds like your temps are a bit high? Reseat cooler?

Ya I don't know hey, from reading around on the web it seems over 70C is normal when running prime at higher voltages. Rudimental's setup sounds great.

I've been running prime95 for like 7 hours and temp is 72C now. It idles at 30C (1.6ghz though as it auto underclocks). I'm not too concerned. at max my voltage is at 1.34 for 4.6ghz. I'm using arctic silver 5 so perhaps it's taking some hours to settle in properly.

Note that I've got a 2500k, so I think that I am going to be cooler anyway even if we had the same setup, especially if you are running with HT on.
 
Ya I think you're right. I do have HT on (who needs 4 cores never mind 8 cores!).

Great, so my 1TB primary disk died. Reallocated Sector Count went from 31 to 3500+ in the span of a week! Fortunately didn't lose any data, the disk still works, fortunately it caught the bad sectors during write operations and the integrity is fine. Have 2x 1TB SATA3 drives on order, hopefully get 'em tomorrow and then setup RAID1 (mirror) .. then to reinstall and load all my music software, which is gonna take ages.

So PC is running cooler. I think it's the AS5 thermal paste running in. Decided to take the CPU to 4.7ghz overclock to see what happens. running prime95 and no errors thus far, 70-78C temps. Rudimental?
 
Looks a bit warm, but that is with a slow single fan. Anything under 80 at full load is supposed to be okay given that ordinary temps will be lower, from what I have heard, but I don't know how reliable that information is. I prefer to keep mine around 60 max, but that is just personal preference.

I dropped my 2500k back to stock clocks due to issues with my motherboard (MSI P67A GD65) and voltage at idle, and because I don't really see a need to overclock, especially since my PC is on most of the day. I could overclock decently, but while it would be stable running Prime95/Intelburntest for ages, it would just freeze up when idling. So I needed to up the voltage a fair bit, and I figured it wasn't currently worth it. I'll wait for more BIOS revisions and then probably have another crack at it.

Same issue here. Can Prime for hours on end and pass 20+ runs of IBT then it BSODs randomly when browsing the net or watching a movie.

Read on XS that there's a Windows 7 update that solves this so will try it tonight.

Those BSODs are odd hey, haven't had those issues myself. 80 is a bit warm but it seems in line with what others are experiencing and at idle (1.6ghz) it runs about 8C above room temp which seems to be inline with benchmarks. The load temp (60C over ambient) seems to be in line too. I want to get a faster fan but not finding too much locally that is appropriate. Found something on Prophecy, a coolermaster 120mm excalibur I think.
 
Also in the market for a new fan. Stock cooling and IBT gets me up to late 70s on stock. I want to OC this puppy but only later when I have time & the cooler.

Possibly something like the Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus which seems to get good reviews and isn't expensive.
 
What about push/pull? I think there's a Thermalright fan with the same specs at the MUX-120's one available.

Ya that's what i'm thinking but it'd be nice to get 2X 600-2500rpm fan 4 pin fans for the asus board in push/pull and then upgrade case fans as they also only go up to 1300rpm max. then i wouldn't want to OC as it'd be too loud haha!
 
Managed to solve my BSOD issue after much trial and error :D

I'm using a Gigabyte UD4 so not sure if this will work on other brands of boards, you can try it however.

Turned LLC off as it causes the voltage to droop sometimes when idle hence you get a BSOD

Turn CPU PLL overvoltage off (I can go up to 4.8 with it off, some chips need it on to go past 4.5 YMMV)

In the voltage settings page, set vCore to NORMAL and you'll be able to change the DVID value, with LLC off you'll need to set a higher voltage for vCore as it will droop under load, you'll have to play around with it and see what's stable. Mine is at +0.030v for 4.8GHz.


QPI/VTT, System Agent Voltage, PCH core you don't need to adjust. I have my PLL undervolted at 1.64v as it's more stable.

Set DRAM voltage to spec.
