i7 3770 Temps - 78 degrees?

Scythe makes awesome fans. All I really want for Christmas, though, is three Yate-Loon fans with Blue LEDS hooked up to a fan controller.
 
Thanks guys. I disabled the manual overclocking (think it was set by the insurers repair company that installed the board and CPU), and enabled X.M.P profile, so the Corsair Dominator RAM is running at 1600MHz now.

Seems it's still overclocking the CPU on this profile as it's at 3.9GHz most of the time, but temps are much better now. (Voltage is still at +-1.2 is that fine?)

Will look into upgraded cooling once I have read up a bit more on overclocking.

Ah, that seems to be much better. For a stock cooler that's about the temps I'd be looking for. Both the 3.9GHz overclock and the overvolt are from Intel's Turbo Boost technology, it's built into the chip and auto-tuned by the processor itself. You can turn this off if you'd like, or use the Balanced power profile and tweak it from there, leaving the power savings on so the chip can clock itself according to the workload. All it really does is clock a single core up to 3.9GHz so Intel gets the edge in benchmarks and single-threaded workloads like transcoding music using iTunes.
 
I have a 3770k and a V6GT, load hits 50 degrees, never seen it go higher than that. I have noticed that core1 is always hotter than the others. Not sure why.
 
You'll never have all cores the same temperature because the IHS and heatsink will never be perfectly symmetrical so the heat distribution won't be even.

No, its the heatspreader as Archer mentioned. The cores aren't in the exact center, to there'll be single-digit degree differences between them, but overall the chip will remain cool at a comfortable operating temperature.
