Hey

Does anyone know how much the i7 2.66GHz is going for? Im upgrading, but cant seem to find a price, not even on apple.com...

There are a bunch of fraudulent looking deals on the classifieds, but nothing official....

thanks,

they have the i7 on there, but only show prices for the i5 2.53GHz....

oh, sorry, you have to go into the i5, and then configure... my bad.

thanks for the help

Get an SSD! The difference in CPU speed is totally unnoticeable. SSD is hugely noticeable. Anyway, you might wanna wait a little while. We'll probably see new Macbook Pros quite soon, with Sandy Bridge processors.

Cant really afford to wait, my MacBookPro4,1 is starting to pack in, and i need it for work...

Do you think the $200-600 SSD Apple.com upgrade is justified, or should i get it done locally once it arrives? Those prices seem a bit excessive

Well then get one now. Maybe your Macbook Pro just needs a new drive though.

About SSD's: Rather upgrade it yourself, yes. It's cheaper, you can choose better SSD's, and it's quite easy to swap out, and you can keep your laptop hard drive to become a handy external drive. 8gb of DDR3 notebook memory is also a brilliant upgrade. It's only R880 or so! http://www.prophecy.co.za/corsair-cmso4gx3m1a1333c9-valueselect-ddr31333-sodimm-p-64999.html

awesome, thanks for the advice...

My current macbook had its Logic board replaced about 4 months ago (at a cost of almost 8k), and now takes about 3-4 minutes to start up... Time for a new anyways..

That's abnormal. It's quite likely the hard drive - an easy fix! Anyway, good luck.

Some people prefer throwing money at a problem, let him throw some more. Who pays R8k for a motherboard when that money goes a long way towards a brand new machine.

i guess i've been pigeonholed into the "some people" catergory without you knowing my circumstances. thanks.
