hi all

i have a technical question... i have a relatively old IBM Thinkpad laptop, its still in perfect condition however i have a little problem... the cmos battery seemed to have come to the end of its life, so i replaced it, now i bought the laptop second hand quite a while back, the laptop then came up with date/time error, so u need to go to bios and set date and time obviously. however the person before me figured there is a point to putting a password on the setup of the laptop, now i've tried the obvious ways... manual, google and calling IBM...

it basically from what i see comes down to, the password cant be reset, no jumpers or anything to clear it, nothing... have to replace motherboard... its hard to accept as it really seems impossible that the lack of a password, or date/time on a laptop, can basically mean i have to throw it away as finding a new mb and putting it in will probably cost more than a new entry lvl laptop.

anyone with some experience/help on these laptops?

ibm claims that password is not hackable.
