iBurst Accounts Suspended Without Warning

Ok, I haven't seen the email yet, I'm @ work and I can't access wbsmail site. I know I'm over 8 GB so does this email say how long this illegal suspension will last?
no it says you have been suspended due to "excessive usage" and to call them, when you call you will be told to either wait till may 1st or to buy more bandwith, 1Gb or 3GB.

Its interesting that the official story went from 'theres a problem which'll be fixed' to 'the cap software errored out and disconnected people by accident'(but you can buy extra bandwidth to avoid this problem) to ' Iburst is suspending users who have abused the network - and who are responsible for the slow speeds - but please, its better that you speak with Shaun'
...
[/post]IMO part of that probably happened bcos the Helpdesk were again in the dark & the 15th floor management had not bothered to inform the 21st floor before instituting all of this disaster policy. We know that the Helpdesk tend to invent explanations when WBS' executive management treat them like Den[n]y Mushrooms, which consequently filters through to us customers...:(

okay, heres a new concept for a lot of you, stop just whining and do something about it. Phone a lawyer ffs

sorry fergus I was making my post while you were making yours, but in response to your post, I don't think a warning against further abuse is enough, we get capped and we can download 24/7 at the speed they give us (which should be 64k), so basically there is no room for abuse, and if people get faster speeds while capped, who's fault is that?

Slimothy is right. Who do we mass mail this time?

Yes, I agree totally but I'm just making a suggestion for an immediate course of action on their part since their capping software is totally non existant. I was actually trying to get capped so I could see what their 64k cap was actually like.

post all wbs staff emails you have here, and get people to send a mail every 5 minutes or something. also, i suggest forwarding the link to this thread to everyone on your contact list and start a snowball email drive, ask them to forward that message to everyone on their contact list. umm... anyone phoned a lawyer or media company yet? no? thought so...

i won't call a lawyer unless it gets worse, because I can't see myself wasting that sort of time and money to recover the cost of 1GB to get back on the service which is exactly what WBS were planning on

small claims dont cost much:P and i suggest you supena (spelling) the CEO, lawyers are not allowed

Dont call a laywer call a reporter :), even thow calling a laywer will get your a reporter too if you follow the course of action :D

This course of action is much more damaging. As far as i'm concerned WBS just commited suicide.

This may be off-topic, but here it is anyway :)

Some DL calculations:

A 3GB cap per month, i.e. 3GB/month, equals an average download rate of 1.3 KB/s!!!
With the supplied bandwidth one can get 3GB in 8 hours!!!
And if could download flat-out for a whole month, i.e. 128 KB/s (1 mbit/s), we'd hit ~316GB in a month!!

So I think the cap limits should seriously be revised!!!

The problem here is not any imposed cap but the lack of imposing and managing it and instead ileagaly disconnecting clients.

But it won't happen until Telkom's licence to print money is seriously revised.

The theoretical limit of the "download" portion of Ibrust is about 24 gigs/month (if their capping worked). I can’t comment on the total amount as I’m not aware of their upload speeds and whether or not it’s a half-duplex or full-duplex connection. But if it is a full-duplex connection the theoretical limit would be 48 gigs/month.

These mesurements are under the assumption that you get a full 1mbit up/down connection till you have your 3 gigs and then switch over to 64kbit up/down

Having been through this before, I can recommend LoneGunman's suggested course of action.

1. Take it to the media. Especially itweb.co.za. It's where Sentech made and lost their stand. This will hurt iBurst the most.

2. Get rid of the service as soon as humanly possible.

Really, if you can make alternative arrangements. Even Sentech was more lenient than this, and actually more clued up than this during the entire Sentech debacle.

I have just now spoken to Kaunda Chama at Itweb.co.za. You can mail him at [email protected] with your complaint, a description of what happened and possibly telephone numbers so that he may contact/interview you.

Try to explain the situation clearly. e.g. you're not getting what you paid for, and that you've been disconnected without prior warning, and that the problem is in fact iBurst's.

iBurst have just shown exactly what they think of you as a customer. Don't take it without a fight.

I am not saying this as a moderator, I'm saying it as an overpaying customer

Yep, I agree with TheRoDent there, WBS have today proved that they are not like Sentech, in reality WBS have proved that they are worse than Sentech!

This day recorded for posterity...

Thanks TheRodent, as soon as I have access to email I will be mailing him... at this stage I'm browsing through a company's crippled internet
