iBurst and Linux setup

thanks for your posting below, however your link 5) for people with a desktop modem, type 'ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.10 netmask 255.255.255.0 up' (and follow further instructions "here") is inoperable. please help as i have a desktop modem and your detailed instructions seem to be the best i've come across
Those instructions are quite old.

Which distribution are you running and which modem do you have?
These days, if you have an iBurst modem connected by Ethernet you should be able to configure a static IP address and a PPPoE connection in NetworkManager without having to touch the terminal.

thanks for this! was this tested with the iburst usb modem? like this one: http://www.rsaweb.co.za/images/stories/usb_modem.jpg

Yep, it was. Have a look at ginggs' post below (it's from the previous page, so look a couple of posts above that to get the up-to-date way of setting iBurst up on Linux :p)

Stumbled upon this thread by luck... have been considering going back to iBurst in the next month... good to know that it isn't too difficult to setup in Linux.

I just got an ethernet cable and plugged in and it worked. No fuss, no muss. Just worked without having to deal with the drivers and microsoft stuff.

Yeah, you only need the driver for USB.
