hi,

i am having a pointless discussion with the iburst support. am in jhb and am finding extreemly slow to non existent connection to european ssl & https sites. Actuallz I am trying to connect to a german VPN.

is there any way of proving this to them or is someone else having similar problems?

examples
http://www.postbank.de

site comes up reasonably quickly but once zou hit online Banking (in red top right corner)

thanks
p.

Having the same problem on other USA site (www.oanda.com trading platform) on https as well as retreiving gmail to outlook (this is setup on ssl connection). I have reference number since this morning but none of their technicians have phoned me back as they promised.

I've been having the same problem with a european https site for about a month now (never used to be like this) and when trying to access the site from a non iburst connection it works fine so the problem can't be with the site.

yeah... you can ask a mod to create a poll here to determine how many ibursters suffer from this and ask RPM if it is news worthy enought to turn into an article that can appear on this site.

for me the link works fine which leads me to wonder if you are capped?

I know when one is throttled on iburst https becomes a problem.

Problem retrieving gmail to outlook (timeouts). I only started doing this recently so can't say whether it is a new feature. Access to gmail seems sluggish too.

it could be that WBS does some sort of shaping on that protocol, maybe they only allow X amount of bandwidth between all their users for secure http - this is only a hunch....

GMail to Outlook has been TOTALLY useless lately, even the web interface has crap response and timeouts. It used to be quite fast and effective but I guess iBurst decided to screw that up as well

more details

as i really needed to access a vpn today, i packet up my .... and went over to wbs. after 30 mins of discussion they put me onto someone who really new what was potting. tryed routing via different routes. from their backbone it seems fine. the issue seems to be in the radio network. there seems to be a high degree of caching at iburst and then the guys they get their bandwith from(multiple caching). therefore normal sites seem ok but secure sites can"t be cached.

so i went backto my trusted UMTS card (worked perfectly) and later to good old ISDN single channel. I am 20 times faster with the isdn 64 k than on my iburst.

how to get rid of my utd???? perhaps they manage to fix it one day

I have not had any response from IBurst since 23 March. I am now having problems accessing www.absadirect.co.za as well. My Gmail downloads to outlook reaching a wopping 50k before it times out. This is becomming a big problem for me.

GMail still a problem here as well. I have almost 9mb of emails waiting to be downloaded and it's not getting easier

IBurst technician visited my place yesterday and could not do anything but see what the problem is. Said it would be sorted out by last evening (as per their network engineer). This morning is even worse. Anybody else? I have been having this problem since 22/3/2006

Problem not understood

They logged a call for me as well. Never heard anything again. They still haven't understood the problem.

I am better of with my old 1 channel ISDN

Spoke to Shaun Green this morning. He confirmed that they are aware of the problem and are blaming the issue on an Internet Solutions international link that is down. They will also post something on the incident page. They don't know when IS will fix the problem.

Hi Gimly

I find it rather disturbing for them to take 1 week to understand that they are having a problem. I think its not only the IS link. I went to visit them with my laptop and mtu last week and they routed my specific link through verizon. Same issue. Additionally if you try whilst connected to their backbone directly,it isn't perfect but a lot better. Let me know if they come back to you.
Thanks );)

usersoosh - it might be a problem with there Transparent http Proxy server. If u like u can use my Private Http Proxy server as a test.Although since u using https iam not sure if going thru my Proxy will make a difference.

FWIW, Shaun Green posted this in the "I'm back" thread this morning:

"Morning all.....

The issue with gmail seem to have been resolved. It was a problem on an upstream provider which iBurst had no control over. It appears that this was also the influencing factor for the incoming mail speeds encountered by certain non-iBurst pop servers.

May the force be with you

Shaun Green"

But does that mean the problem with access to secure (non-cached) international sites has also been resolved? Shaun?
