Hi,
Does anyone know if iBurst covers Brackendowns - Alberton?
Thx.

hmmm I know there's a BS by Camaro shopping centre... dno't know if it'll reach all the way to Brackendowns...

Took mine to a friend in brackendowns, signal was up and down but averaged around 3 bar...

I have no experience with iBurst is a signal averaging 3 bar useable?

Yes its usable but might be a bit frustrating when it drops.. Maybe somone else can also comment?

The coverage map shows a big, fat orange dot basically centred at Canna Street and Narsing Road, Brackenhurst, how far are you away from that location and in which direction? Also, what's the lay of the land: pancake, undulating or sweat-bricks-to-cycle-the-mountains?

I am about 3.2K away from Canna St to the south, quite flat. If the transmitter is mounted on the church I can see it from part of my property. On the coverage map Allemanskraal Cres borders on fair and poor. Just very risky to lay out money just in case there is reception.

Based on the result the coverage map shows, I can see why you'd think that way. But iBurst's signal can easily go way past 3km - hell, to be financially viable it has to! Anyhow, that said, I've got a flat panel HGA up in some WAY-out-in-the-boonies place that IIRC connects to the heavily used tower on Northcliff water tower and it's around 15km away.

But any time you can give a base-station the hairy-eyeball you can safely presume to have decent radio signal ..and with it a good likelihood of a good connection. Whether you get good Internet access is a variable that is out of your control, that's where you're subject to the whims of how iBurst are (mis)managing the network at any one time.

Have some friends who are using iBurst in Alrode South. Works OK for them... but slow. only adequate for e-mail.

Thanks everyone for the advise.
After 4 months without a Telkom line I have given up on them which is a shame as I have had a solid reliable and relativly inexpensive ADSL service for more than 3 years.
I decided not to go with IBurst because of the reported restrictions with P2P.
For what it is worth I have tried MTN & Vodacom Sim cards in an E220 modem and get a good to very good signal (mostly very good) with both. Both do slip from HSDPA to 3G for short periods of time. I eventualy settled on Vodacom because of the availability of a 3 GIG data bundle which is not available with MTN.

live in strand and my Iburst had 0 signal for about an hour today, not weak, simply 0. It happens every now and again, it is a bit of a pain.

From the looks of it almost all the towers in Jo'burg and all the 1's in pretoria are down...I'm not even sure which tower I'm connected to at the moment but its going between 1 bar and nothing..I wonder how long this will be...
