Hi guys excuse my ignorance,

I did a test now on Speedtest.net.

Okay, I figured out the settings on that site.

"< 50 km" means that the iburst tower is less than 50kms away, right?

I just need to know if "136ms" ping is a good thing? ( I don't game)

Hi Shaun,

Ditched OpenDNS on Sunday (for good I think) as I was only getting 0.05 Mb/s through that.

Since switching to 'Automatic from ISP' since then downloads have been consistently in the +- 600 Kb/s range, Uploads 15-22 Kb/s and ping 200-250ms.
Your new DNS servers perhaps doing the trick?

This morning:

Download 0.77 Mb/s
Upload 0.17 Mb/s
ping 192 ms

So looking much better all round thanks.

Results from Cape Town

Just spotted this thread and thought I would share my results:

Speedtest.net JHB:
d/l 0.58 Mb/s
u/l 0.26 Mb/s
Ping 176 ms

Speedtest.net NYC:
d/l 0.54 Mb/s
u/l 0.24 Mb/s
Ping 382 ms

10 pings to www.iburst.co.za - average 159ms

Definitely faster than what I've been used to seeing in recent months, but also tested on a Sunday morning when network utilisation is probably lower than usual. Usually don't get anything over 0.3 Mb/s on local or international. I'm located in the Woodstock area, just a few k's outside the CBD. Old grey desktop UTD, using internal antenna perched on a windowsill.

Have also noticed recently that the service is generally more usable than in the past once capped - although speeds are still in the expected 64 Kb/s region, web surfing + VPN are a lot more responsive.

Might run another test during the course of the week and post my results - hopefully the upward trend is maintained!

Morning guys.

Please could the gamers with the statics post their results so that I may database them again.

Your results could be different with the statics.

Thanks

Haven't done testing yet, but connecting last night (8pm'ish) and early this morning (1 am & 2 am) via VPN to the office was very good. Felt like I was on the LAN. Better than going through my MTN card.
