Doesn't mean much. From the DC which is on a 10Gb/s backbone with 1 Gb/s links out the speed is high (and people complain it is an unrealistics test when you post a 1 Gb/s speedtest)

However, from my desk which is on an STM-1 that is rate limited down for our area, this is the speedtest:

Testing a USB unit on mac osx 10.6.4.
Pings: timeout to www.iburst.co.za, all.
Testing 57mb of apple updates: download - 0-20kb most of the time.
Signal: excellent (90-100)
MTU: documented requirement

Not going to bother with speedtest.net.

I'm composing this from BlackBerry, as www.mybroadband.co.za hadn't completed loading after 1-2 minutes.

Location: ferndale (btw Fleet and oxford rd)
Time: from approx - 21:00 onwards.


More than likely not going to be sale here, may have to go fixed line with telkom.

www.iburst.co.za is behind a FW which blocks pings. I will go to the location on my way to work and test as well.

Update: Was at the corner of Bond and Oxford this morning - will go to Fleet Street later

Looks ok. Please check your modem placing or use an additional antennae.

Why does google also timeout? Was the first Post on this thread not to ping www.iburst.co.za?

Physically located on Elgin Avenue, however on upper level of house facing Northgate, I have nice a view at night of the Dome.

I will try later, however have lost 150MB due to a "Reset by Peer" as of between 6am and 7am this morning, I believe the same concerns of others have been raised around these times. So now I am inclined to believe there is an occurence these times.

File Size:185MB approx.
Downloaded: 150MB approx at point of Reset by Peer.

last night though I ended up turning the USB modem 90degrees on its swivel and it was a little better but not good enough. Better than the 8-24 Hour how download for 58MB, down to 2 Hours.

Then moved the Mac 90degrees on my desk, essentially hold and swivel on my chair. Download of 58MB came down to 30minutes, still not great.
This was a little better. However only getting 35KBytes/s (200-600kbits/s) average? Are these normal rates?

Overall throughput was was arratic.
Signal: 90-100

Think the ping test mentioned refers to http://www.pingtest.net/

Also, always use a download manager that supports resuming ... will save you loads of heart ache.

If you have a USB modem, obtain a USB cable extension. Typically the thick ones from Belkin (about 3m to 4.8m) Use this extension to plak the modem in a window.

BTW: Are you using P2P?

Sorry for delayed response, ended up doing this before this reply and it seemed to help.

Dont do P2P.
