Iburst speed waning

I didnt catch on to the humor unfortuanately...
Some kind of parody of Capetonian language, or just BroadbadICT's language?
Whatever I dont realy care.. just bored.

Naah, its not just Capetonian language.... some places starting with B can also be associated

Dont mean to rain on your little rant here..
Show me, in your iBurst contract, where they guarantee you 1mbit?

Actually i think you did have to sign a contract, and there is their terms and regulations or something that you agree to by using their service.
But I was going to say the same thing at first.

Well noone expects to be gaurenteed 1Mbit, with Iburst especially. But speeds like 140kb-300kb during the day (what I get as of late) are pretty crap. Youd expect a bit more if they advertise 1mbp as achievable.

Oh and that place with a B, Swoosh.. cant quite think of it, havent really tried hard. But pray tell what is it? Boksburg.. sorry my knowledge of Joburg is limited...

Wait wait.. brakpan, benoni... on the right track at least?

You know your speeds could also be related to some electrical interference....that's what my contractors and I have found in certain instances......don't check pings with iBurst...get UOtrace and see what your poll is like....let UOtrace ping a site and then afterwards it will poll to show you how quick it's actually sending/receiving packets...Rule of Thumb.....The faster it sends and receives the packets the better your throughout with iBurst will be! it's a much better visual indicator than pinging lotsa sites or something....
You'll be able to see, based on where you place that device, how good tyour throughput will be.....That UT star and iConnect is OK I guess....I mean I used it and it told me to get rid of iBurst...I'm 'bending the signal' in a sense....bouncing it off a few things and tada.....1 Mbps :D so try that or give me a shout if you get stuck

Cheers
Boet

Shot... my speeds arent that terrible, its just during the day that things become drastic. My speed used to be fine, up to 1MBps at night and around 80-110KB/s most of the time after office hours.

Its gone to *shizzle* latley.. only 50-60kb MAX.. for no reason but others are expieriencing this, so im just waiting for my new tower anyway before I make any decisions about dropping Iburst or anything.

Strange thing is that my latency is still fine, sometimes better than what it was.

And about the name.. haha nope im not even using Linux, I probably would but others in my house need to use the PC sometimes.. anyway its just a name.. sort of a joke. Watever just couldnt think of a name, but windows does frustrate me sometime.. has some real **** errors so i just named my PC Ekhaatvensters.

Notice they say up to 1Mbps....you have the 1Mbps pipe....finding the resources to sort you out is another issue :D and also......

Your speed is directly determined by:

1)Your Signal Quality - Nevermind the Strength Frame Errors are gonna urinate all over your parade :D

2)The Congestion on the site/s that you are DLing from /ULing to...

3)The Hosting Companies bandwidth capacities of these sites you visiting...there was a company in SA that hosted 52 Websites over a 128kbps Diginet line to SAIX - That's real fast *sarcasm*....and they later upped their link to SAIX to 512kbps *stating that there's lots of capacity and throughput for all the hosted sites...this coming from a VISP that resells dialups and stuff.....point is.....a website on an infrastructure lke this not gonna be very fast!

4)The Speed at which you are travelling *Caution:Tested at high speed, high speed :D don't tell the cops.....* - Very important I tested it on the freeways around Cape Town, Jozi and Durbs...and within coverage it didn't drop and handed over base station to base station much more efficently than regular cellular technology....this is smarter cellular technology hence Intellicell. The way this spatial technology works if amazing to say the least....there can be hundreds or thousands of users in just a few Mhz of spectrum......each user *device* allocated a personal cell, hence personal broadband....this is iBurst!
Hopefully WBS understand it that way...Data over a Data Derived Network infrastructure not data over voice technology I.E. ... DSL,ISDN,56k and 3G....

Mmmmmm HSDPA *or whatever it's called it pretty good...I still have to get the specs on it..it has potential*....CDMA EV-DO are excellent data technologies too.....guaranteed throughout is based on ideal circumstances really.........contention ratios is another story.....*check some other wireless ISP's or even 3g and compare*

Erm I think that's the lot.......

I agree with halicon, recently (over the past month or so) i have been receiving RIDICULOUSLY slow speeds. To the point where its just unacceptable. From having downloads between 80-90k at night im getting d/s of 20-30k. And during the day??? ATM, im downloading at 4KB/s!!! This is horse****! :(

oh wait I'm already pulling a Meg :D

Ciao

Man if only I knew half of what you are talking about! :)
Listen , I have had iBurst for the last month, and I would love to kow how to get the best out of it -speed and efficiency wise. How do I do this, baring in mind that I dont understand what you are talking about?

Cheers

Okay.. right I thaught they bought a specified amount from UUNET, thats what I heard on one of these threads somewhere. Anyway, then it shouldn't be too hard for them to upgrade the peering link.

My problem with the towers is that they haven't put any new ones up in CPT besides Table View in a year or more.

Oh and I doubt any WBS officials are going to reply to this.
Except upgrading the peering link would be a Telkom upgrade :(

Really? I thought they used UUNET or satellite connections, are either of these controled by Telkom?

I think the satallite links might be, but definately not UUNET's connection. So I dont thik it would neccesarily be a Telkom upgrade. But if it was that would explain quite a bit.

well sadly the MyAdsl Broadband report confirms what i have to say. What have you got to confirm what you say?

Besides this issue is a Johannesburg related issue and you have admitted that you know nothing of the history of these waning speeds. Although the advice you have give can help... when i messed with my external antenna i yeilded better results but still not as they were +/- 5 months ago.

UTrace helps with finding a better signal.

For those of you who suffer a sudden loss of speed try rebooting your modem (as silly as it sounds it has helped many people).

Get the new Firmware for your UTD (need to use USB for that).

Hmm I can't send you my MRTG reports coz that would be illegal....not to mention.....it's confidential get a cisco router and play with SNMP and stuff......I can give you DU Meter reports....although you probably won't believe me....you could visit when you ever in Cape Town..but I personally wouldn't want you near my premises or Data Center.....so......maybe you could settle for DU meter reports ????? :D

If you getting a sudden loss of speed more than once report it....the 'cap of death' could be looming....and yes to confirm what Halicon says the firmware update is like a 'windows reboot' to a iBurst device......irons out all the tiny glitches if there are any....if you still having trouble could be a faulty bridge *UT-D Device*.....the device pulls 6W Max and has a transmit power of 25 dB so if you could diagnose that you'd be able to tell if your device was operating optimally.....

I have just completed my first firmware update ever, I used to have more than a year old firmware, now I have the latest. The result, nothing that I can tell. The speeds are the same, if not slightly worse for no reason and pings are the same story.

I geuss it could help some people, but what exactly is it meant to do for you? Because it did nothing for me.

well i have the latest firmwares
a solid connection (-68db) with less then 2% frame error's
no spyware
correctly set MTU (according to iburst)

explain why:
international speed is half that of local?
local speeds are almost half what they were 4 months ago
everyone seems to be complaining?

But until now you have yet to explain anything pertaining to this speed loss. So I guess since you have so much to offer then explain it to us all?

The spot light is on you BroadbandICTHoldings.

Is it because Iburst have no bandwidth / over selling?

If you are waiting for an answer from iBurst before you can answer then join the club.

ps. For someone who sells the product you have done a world of damage to the product ;) are all wireless providers the same?
