iBurst uncapped broadband service launched; boosts data bundle sizes

Anybody that goes for iBurst needs to have their head read. Their service is absolutely the worst of any company in the whole country, and that is saying a lot! What would motivate all those people to start up anti-iBurst sites and campaign against them without very good reason? Add to that the thousands of complaints on Hellopeter, doesn't that make you wonder? Yet the gullible people keep giving iBurst free access to their bank accounts where iBurst plays havoc, just taking money out of people's accounts any time they feel like it. No thanks, had enough of that. Anyone still stupid enough to use iBurst after all the warnings deserves to be robbed blind.

I was with them for about 2 years and had nothing but great service, but I know others had problems with their billing in the past. I would like to hear from more recent customers if they have managed to sort those issues out yet.

And the thousands on Hellopeter disagree with you.

If hellopeter is anything to go by then we should pretty much stay away from anyone offering any service. People are quick to complain but none compliment. Agreed the service hasn't been flawless but from my experiences it works as good or better than any other provider out there...

I live just down the road from an Iburst tower... when cellc couldnt deliver anymore because of network congestion..IBurst got me through my work... and always been quite reliable...only thing is the 1mb line..but learnt to deal with it...

I have been with them and their service was terrible!

are you actually getting 1mbps. I'm currently on 386kbps on telkom, so for me that will be an improvement.

I get good speeds with iBurst.

During the day it's a bit slow, but in the evening I get +-900kbps download speed.

+1. Been there...

That is the key, you are STILL a customer. Try cancelling your contract. You are guaranteed that they will steel 2 to 3 months subscription from you.

And happy so guess we're not going to find out anytime soon...

Something to consider on your view on iBurst today: 2-3 years ago - CellC was a loser, and who would be silly enough to EVER consider a telkom based cellphone for bandwidth? Heck, telkom leading the way and fighting cellc over cellphone data prices that are cheaper than a DSL setup... everyone would ROTFL if you suggested that 2-3 years go.

I'm with RVQ on this one, my experience with iBurst is excellent. (and I've cancelled with them 2 times before - no issues)

Just short of a meg down and 300kb up, latency is 92ms just finished playing a game of gears 3. Strange but speeds and latency are better then the 512k I had with telkom last year and it's almost half price.

I don't know why people don't use stop orders online to stop payments coming off their bank account. Standard Bank Internet banking... I think I might even have reversed a payment like that. My account so the onus is on the provider to prove they are allowed to deduct.

Seems quite decent to me? 10GB for R198?? Uncapped on a wireless offering?

What am I missing? Compared to ADSL costs (incl. voice line rental), this is very cheap.
+1
Capped products looking very good I'm impressed. The uncapped standard should have been made 30gigs FUP a month then afta 256kbps not 1gig per day but with all that said well done iBurst.

I actually think it makes sense the way it is. Otherwise their network will be dead the last few days of the month, with everyone trying to finish their caps, and utilise the FUP to its maximum.
agree with ToxicWazte - it stops you accidently burning through your cap early in the month and then dealing with slow speeds from there on (user experience points) and also from a network management perspective stops the end of month download frenzy (more user experience points).

Not sure I am ready to trust Iburst just yet, but on cost it would be a much better deal than 384k uncapped ADSL and you can move around without major issues. 24 month contract is where they lose me as a potential customer. That and the higher uncapped is a bit too close to ADSL 1mbps with uncapped from say MWEB which would give you much better performance unless your exchange is dodgy.
Correct, it was rpm who was the source of the idea.
Nice RPM

I also really think there should be some distinction made between full uncapped and uncapped that has any usage based strings attached - call it limited uncapped or whatever, but it is not really fair to call a service that limits you in any way based on usage straight uncapped

Haha. Whatever RVQ is smoking; I want some! It sounds like it's really good stuff. :D

I have very little positive to say about iBurst as a service provider. Am simply stuck with them because of my circumstances, but have been eyeing out 3G options for a couple months now. I'm allergic to contracts, but am considering fighting that allergy for the sake of getting something proper.

I won't list my complaints about iBurst, since it's draining even to people with fantastic self-esteem. I think dropping their pricing is the least they could do to try make up for other areas they cause grief in. As of writing this, I'm yet to be able to get into my user account control panel thingy to see what migration options are there - if any.

Have not been holding my breath since hearing the news, but I do admit it would be a pleasant surprise to get many more GBs for the same dosh.

UPDATE: Ok, I have officially been migrated to the new Pro10+ from my previous Wireless 2 package, and my account now says I have 10GB anytime data remaining. Schweet. A nice pre-birthday surprise for me. Shot iBust !
