ic asks: please help Doo get more speed...

Hi Doo,

obviously English is not your motherlanguage and then some arseholes on this forum see fit to attack your writing.

Speak to me, craigsa or wls. We can help u.

Forget about slimothy, he knows too much!

lol... *cough*personal attack*cough*

doo may I ask do you use a download manager and a broswer capable of mutithreading (multiple requests per download) like firefox?

Everything looks good as far as the stats are concerned so I could only take a stab in the dark as to what it could be, these are my thoughts (I didn't graduate from USB maker university 5 years ago so please bear with me)

1. your tower may be congested and have way too many people on it, I can't say for sure because I dont use that tower we'd need other midrand people to confirm this, it sounds likely as you said it worked perfectly before, the only solution I see would be to get an antenna which might enable you to connect to a different basestation further away which might be a little more empty. This is what craigSA and others did to great effect.

2. you may have some software or patch hindering performance as craigSA said, if you can reboot your system make sure nothign else is open and connect to the internet, wait about a minute and type 'netstat -a' inthe command prompt, if you see wierd IPs or domain names there you may have a spybot, its not ussualy the case but its good to check for because it does happen.

Perhaps its somethign else which is why I would advise you to listen to what everyone has to say since everyone has a different piece of the kowledge pie so to speak.

In the meantime while you get to the bottom of this, try multithread everything, you can set firefox to multithread which might help really improve browsing speed and use a download manager with threading capability like download accelerator and getright (also flashget),

Your frame error seems too high -- should be less than 5% --

Try find your sweet spot -- running a download (pref multi threading it) and or ping test ping -t www.iburst.co.za (don't do ping and download at same time) ... move your arial around keeping it at a place for a decent amount of time monitoring the results. You may need to unplug the utd before changing the direction.. I have noted (using the arial) some times it will still try find the old tower and not look for a new one

I only mention this coz you only gave us one ping test average - do you pings go above 1000 .... (ever?). try get em below 200ms (always)

 Iburst make me crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What's the problem? Iburst side? or my computer side?
Iburst side? Hardware or software?
my side? Hardware or software?
Could me anybody give straight answer? I am telling you now I have try many different solutions but still same story ..... SPEED SLOW S L O W S L O W S... L...O...W...........................................

Midrand Tower user here. I'm capped, but still get decent speeds browsing, DLing, etc. No recent problems to report.

/me salutes, and goes back to slave duty.

Hi Raithlin,
Pls try ping www.ourgame.com? what's speed? Can you Browsing the website fast or not?
Thank you! I am waiting for your answer.

Hi Raithlin,
What's speed test with Telkom websit.
my line speed is approximately 217.9 Kbps or 26.7 kBytes/sec

Doo, I know it seems a bit confusing, asking one question and getting a million different solutions, but in essence everyone who mentioned somethign here was 100% corrent, and if you took all those measures to get your frame rate down, multithread, antenna etc etc it would definatly improve your performance.

However, it seems to me like you use Internet Explorer to browse the web (please tell me I'm wrong), because your telkom test is 1/6 of what it could be, sometimes that happens with single threads, I'm gonna make another assumption, when you download a file it probably sticks around 20 - 30KB at best and NEVER jumps over 40KB/s. Am I right? If this is the case the quick solution is as follows (and its a toughie because it requires you change your web habbits, but I'm positive it will work):

Use firefox, not only does it draw pages faster after downloading them, and not only is it safer then Internet Explorer but it allows multithreading, what this means is if the maximum you can pull per connection is lets say 25KB/s then if you open 5 requests for one file and download 5 different parts and put em together later you could get 125KB/s... alot of users have used this to great effect, however you will need to config firefox a bit before it is efficient with multithreading, here is a step by step guide:
http://devnulled.com/archives/2004/12/how_to_make_firefox_faster.php

OK that shoudl take care of browsing and small browser downloads (10MB or less) but what about bigger file downloads, for that you need to again multithread, but this time you want something beefier, here are suggestions:

Download Accelerator
FlashGot
GetRight

Now you should set the download manager to download with 10 threads for maximum efficiency, it pays to use this wether you switch to firefox or not, it really helps. Alot of iBurst users never get more than 40KB/s on a single thread download but if they use say 10 threads can max thier connection (120KB/s) anytime of day.

The reason you might have not had problems before but do now is because WBS are still playign around with the shaping rules and bandwith manager, give them time, there are still alot of kinks but I'm sure if you follow those 2 steps you will be able to get faster speed today and finally have the connection you thought you signed up for, I hope that helps.

P.S. if perhaps it is the midrand tower, or even your quality of signal to the midrand tower (you can have 100% signal and still have a bad frame error rate) then you might want to look into the external area to boost signal to midrand or even to connect to a different tower alltogether.

Doo, what exactly was the cause of your problem with slow speeds?

Doo,

Actually those kind of games you should be able to play without a problem, however it looks like its hosted in Japan, I must admit the connectivity from here to Japan is bad, I have noticed it time and time again and fishfly who was from that part of the world repeatedly said his biggest problem was connecting to sites in the far east with iBurst (although I'm sure other connections suffer from the same problem), right now that page is still loading in my browser and its been 2 minutes already.

I would have to say if you want to play the games hosted on that particular website, no, I don't think it will happen unfortunatley. :(

Sorry just a side thought, that server looks like it may have a proxy between it for IPv4 and really be sitting on a IPv6 connection, perhaps thats why it is so slow.

Since 8 May

Maybe someone is missing something here. Doo said he could play very well until 8th May - then low speeds. Can this be caused by the hosting site being in the Far East? I suspect it could rather be due to capping/shaping/fiddling by someone but let Shaun sort it out, as he promised.

It would be nice to know what caused the slow speeds.

yepp, you're right, slow servers access wouldn't add up in this case, just threw it out there :p

Hi Shaun,
I call you just now. But you cellular phone let me leave the message. ok anyway my question same as Mr. 8321;

Did you promise ? Pls go ahead. Let all Iburst user happy their pay for service. We don't want Iburst become second "Telkom = bad service".

Maybe 'promise' was the wrong word - undertaking, maybe?
