ICASA makes ADSL pricing decision

the Electronic Communications Act comes into force today

Apparently it caught ICASA Napping - rpm contacted them about the ADSL decision now that ECA has come into effect - their response - try again tomorrow. ffs

Like I said before, telecoms (like much else) in this country will remain in this state until someone is held accountable for it. What exactly is going to happen to those at ICASA responsible for this delay? They will still get payed. They will still have a job.

Until heads roll and hopefully the heads of those at the very top, nothing will change.

exactly. i'm sure a lot of them is on a "contract" basis which means they have a job till that is all completed. so why not waste another 6 months?
 
Telkom's fixed-line call tariffs of 38c per minute in standard time and 16c in “callmore” time will be waived, and customers will only pay for calls to other Telkom numbers outside of a 50km radius

guess there is not more need for R7 call then .... seems telkom is pushing dial up internet 10 years to late...
 
24% decrease is hardly enough IMHO, they suck donkey ***! Screw you telkom.

I wonder if thats possible...wouldn't it make products like closer & surfmore etc etc redundant.

Can you imaging it, then you could be logged on 24/7/365 with a 128k dual isdn line unshaped and uncapped...for free?? :p

Even if true, I am SURE it will exclude internet calls.
 
24% off dsl line rentals is just not good enough. Esp since you still are forced to pay for an increased analogue rental. Time to sell your ADSL bandwidth - connect a modem to your analog line and sell isp accounts to your friends and family who need dial-up... with no charge calls...
 
I'm also sure that they'll exclude internet calls from being free local. That's what they did with the Closer packages - those rates only applied to normal voice calls.

Hence my suggestion above.
Charge your mother in law R80 pm to connect via your (redundant) analogue line - use your PC to route via your ADSL line... she pays no call charge as it is a residential call. :D
 
Telkom throwing us old dry bones again!

STILL an analogue line rental of R92 which must go
STILL a dual fee for Telkom and ISP which must go
STILL a cr@p 3G cap which must go

R362 for DSL512 with 10G cap, no other costs, now THERE is an option!

Looks like it was a mistake in the article - has now been changed as follows:

Telkom's fixed-line call tariffs of 38c per minute in standard time and 16c in “callmore” time will remain unchanged. Standard fees for landline calls outside a 50km radius will be reduced from 80c per minute to 72c, and “callmore” rates for long distance calls from 40c to 36c. International calls are to drop by about 10%.

I knew that would be too good to be true so I took a rather large pinch of salt first.
Anyone reading may not have noticed the omission.:rolleyes:
